Impaired Glymphatic Function and Pulsation Alterations in a Mouse Model of Vascular Cognitive Impairment

Mosi Li et al.

Summary: Large vessel disease and carotid stenosis are key mechanisms contributing to vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) and dementia. This study using rodent models found that bilateral common carotid stenosis (BCAS) leads to cognitive impairment via deterioration of the neuro-glial-vascular unit and accumulation of amyloid-beta (A beta) protein. Furthermore, impaired glymphatic function and reduced vascular pulsation were observed in the BCAS model. These findings suggest that glymphatic drainage and vascular pulsation should be considered in the treatment of VCI.

Post-Stroke Cognitive Impairment and Dementia

Natalia S. Rost et al.

Summary: Poststroke cognitive impairment and dementia is a common problem among stroke patients, influenced by factors such as age, education level, preexisting cognitive decline, and history of prior stroke. Manifestations of cerebral small vessel disease also contribute to cognitive outcomes. Understanding the interaction between acute stroke events and preexisting brain pathology is crucial for personalized prediction, prevention, targeted interventions, and rehabilitation.

Vagus nerve stimulation enhances the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway to reduce lung injury in acute respiratory distress syndrome via STAT3

Sheng Li et al.

Summary: The cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway regulates lung injury repair after ARDS through the STAT3 signaling pathway, with vagus nerve stimulation reducing TNF-alpha and IL-1 beta secretion, increasing IL-10 levels, and altering macrophage markers. VNS inhibits the ARDS inflammatory response by promoting CAIP activity, activating alpha 7nAchR and inducing changes in gene expression associated with inflammation and macrophage function.

A transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation study on verbal order memory

Edith Kaan et al.

Summary: Research suggests that transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation (tVNS) can enhance the recall accuracy of healthy adults when it comes to remembering the order of words, particularly when the words are phonologically similar. This indicates that tVNS may improve selective attention and inhibitory control in individuals.
