IFN-κ Is a Rheostat for Development of Psoriasiform Inflammation

Mehrnaz Gharaee-Kermani et al.

Summary: The study identified the important role of IFN-kappa in psoriasis lesions and its correlation with psoriasis-associated genes. Transgenic mice exhibited more severe skin lesions, inflammatory cell infiltration, and higher levels of inflammation-related gene expression compared to wild-type and knockout mice. This suggests that IFN-kappa acts as a rheostat for the initiation of psoriasiform inflammation, and targeting IFN-1s early in the disease may be an effective way of controlling psoriatic inflammation.

Skin Barrier Dysregulation in Psoriasis

Andreas Orsmond et al.

Summary: The skin barrier consists of a physical barrier in the epidermis and an immune barrier in both dermis and epidermis, which cooperate to maintain skin homeostasis and human health. Dysregulation can lead to various skin diseases, with psoriasis being one of the most prevalent due to disrupted barrier function. Recent research has focused on understanding disease pathogenesis involving keratinocytes, immune cells, genetic and environmental factors, and advancements in current and future treatments.

Trinidad Montero-Vilchez et al.

Summary: This study compared skin barrier function between healthy skin, psoriatic skin, and atopic dermatitis skin, finding that TEWL was higher at psoriatic and AD lesions, while SCH was lower. Specific TEWL and temperature values may help clinicians determine disease severity and treatment needs.

Investigation of Omega-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid Biological Activity in a Tissue-Engineered Skin Model Involving Psoriatic Cells

Melissa Simard et al.

Summary: Clinical studies have shown that diets enriched with omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids could alleviate psoriasis symptoms, but the mechanisms are poorly understood. This study investigated the effects of ALA on psoriatic keratinocytes in a 3D skin model. ALA supplementation decreased keratinocyte proliferation, improved epidermal differentiation, and altered levels of lipid mediators.

RPL22 Overexpression Promotes Psoriasis-Like Lesion by Inducing Keratinocytes Abnormal Biological Behavior

Jinrong Zeng et al.

Summary: Increased expression of RPL22 in skin lesions of psoriasis patients and IMQ-treated psoriatic-like mice is due to hyperacetylation of histone H3K27 in the promoter region of RPL22. Overexpression of RPL22 promotes keratinocyte proliferation, accelerates CD4(+)T cells recruitment, and induces psoriasiform phenotypes in IMQ-induced mouse skins.
