Cytokines possibly involved in idiopathic epiretinal membrane progression after uncomplicated cataract surgery

Pei Song et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the levels of cytokines in eyes with idiopathic epiretinal membrane (iERM) before and after cataract surgery, and investigated their correlations with the progression of iERM after surgery. The results showed that in iERM eyes, there were significant elevations in the levels of 4 cytokines before surgery; postoperatively, the concentrations of 21 cytokines were higher than the preoperative levels, among which GRO-alpha, IL-8, and MCP-3 showed more pronounced changes. Additionally, some cytokine level changes were moderately correlated with clinical characteristics.

Interleukin-19 as an Immunoregulatory Cytokine

Yasuyuki Fujimoto et al.

Summary: IL-19, known as an anti-inflammatory cytokine, shares a receptor with IL-20 and IL-24, leading to the need for clarification of their respective roles. Recent studies suggest the presence of a new receptor for IL-19. T cells do not produce IL-19, thus limiting its role in acquired immunity.

Epithelial Cells and Inflammation in Pulmonary Wound Repair

Amanda Croasdell Lucchini et al.

Summary: Respiratory diseases are characterized by epithelial injury, airway inflammation, defective tissue repair, and airway remodeling, with the lung having the capacity to repair and replace damaged cells in response to injury. Airway epithelial cells play a key role in maintaining lung homeostasis and host defense, orchestrating the resolution of inflammation and initiating tissue repair. Understanding the mechanisms of intercellular communication, including growth factors, extracellular vesicles, and cytokines, will identify potential cells, mediators, and interactions for therapeutic targeting.

The aging mouse lens transcriptome

Adam P. Faranda et al.

Summary: Aging affects the transcriptome of lens cells, leading to changes in differentiation markers and transcription factors expression. Aged lens cells upregulate genes controlling immune response and stress response, and exhibit changes in mitochondrial gene expression related to mitochondrial stress. Additionally, age does not profoundly impact the response of lens epithelial cells to injury.

The effect of sex on the mouse lens transcriptome

Adam P. Faranda et al.

Summary: The transcriptome of mammalian tissues varies between males and females and can change with age, potentially affecting disease prevalence and severity. Gender differences in gene expression are more pronounced in aged lens cells, which could impact cataract development and surgery outcomes.
