The Emerging Role of Long Non-coding RNAs and Circular RNAs in Coronary Artery Disease

Soudeh Ghafouri-Fard et al.

Summary: Research has shown that long non-coding RNAs and circular RNAs play important roles in the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease, with some lncRNAs up-regulated and certain circRNAs down-regulated in CAD patients. These RNA molecules have been found to influence the function of endothelial cells or vascular smooth muscle cells, contributing to the development and progression of CAD.

Insights into circular RNAs: their biogenesis, detection, and emerging role in cardiovascular disease

Zoe Ward et al.

Summary: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a conserved form of noncoding RNA with covalently closed loop structures. In addition to acting as potent microRNA sponges, they may also have other biological functions such as protein sponges and regulators, and potentially encoding proteins with alternative translation mechanisms. Accurate identification of circRNAs is crucial for understanding their functions, and various software platforms have been developed for this purpose.

Acute Decompensated Heart Failure and the Kidney: Physiological, Histological and Transcriptomic Responses to Development and Recovery

Miriam T. Rademaker et al.

Summary: In an ovine model, it was observed for the first time that acute decompensated heart failure leads to an immediate decline in kidney function, which does not fully resolve after approximately 4 weeks and is associated with persistent functional/structural kidney injury. Molecular pathways underlying kidney injury and repair in ADHF were identified, and 31 novel candidate biomarkers for acute kidney injury in this setting were highlighted.

Long Non-Coding RNAs in Cardiovascular Diseases: Potential Function as Biomarkers and Therapeutic Targets of Exercise Training

Camila Caldas Martins Correia et al.

Summary: This review discusses the role of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in the cardiovascular system, emphasizing their importance in cardiovascular pathology and their potential as biomarkers and therapeutic targets. Additionally, the protective role of regular physical exercise against cardiovascular diseases is highlighted, although the underlying molecular mechanisms are still not well understood.
