Selection of antibody and light exposure regimens alters therapeutic effects of EGFR-targeted near-infrared photoimmunotherapy

Ryuhei Okada et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of Panitumumab and Cetuximab in APCs for NIR-PIT and the impact of different light exposure regimens on tumor growth in an immunocompetent mouse model. The results showed that APCs with longer half-life and double light exposure had superior outcomes in cancer cell-targeted NIR-PIT.

Evaluation of Fluorescence Intensity and Antitumor Effect Using Real-Time Imaging in Photoimmunotherapy

Kenji Takashima et al.

Summary: Photoimmunotherapy (PIT) is a tumor-selective treatment method that utilizes light-absorbing dye-conjugated antibodies and light irradiation. This study investigated the fluorescence intensity and antitumor effect of PIT using real-time fluorescence observation and found that the rate of decay of tumor fluorescence intensity correlates with the antitumor effect. The results suggest that real-time fluorescence imaging can be used to predict the required irradiation dose for PIT treatment.

Summary: NIR-PIT utilizes molecularly targeted antibodies with a photosensitive dye to target cancer cells, causing irreversible damage and highly immunogenic cell death through near-infrared light exposure. The use of L-NaAA can suppress acute edema, accelerate ligand release, and enhance therapeutic effects without causing side effects from unnecessary ROS production.
