Visceral-to-subcutaneous fat ratio is a possible prognostic factor for type 1 endometrial cancer

Michiko Wada et al.

Summary: This study found that a visceral-to-subcutaneous fat ratio (V/S ratio) greater than 0.5 may be a factor for poor prognosis in type 1 endometrial cancer. Further research is needed to explore the effects of reducing visceral fat on the prognosis of this type of cancer.

Prognostic factors for patients with anal cancer treated with conformal radiotherapy-a systematic review

Stelios Theophanous et al.

Summary: This systematic review aimed to evaluate existing literature to identify prognostic factors for various oncological outcomes in anal cancer patients treated with curative intent using contemporary conformal radiotherapy techniques. The results showed that N stage, T stage, and sex were the most prevalent and reliable clinical prognostic factors for the majority of outcomes explored. Only a few biomarkers were found to be prognostic by more than one study. The lack of studies exploring the prognostic significance of imaging factors was also highlighted.

Impact and Treatment of Sarcopenia in Patients Undergoing Radiotherapy: A Multidisciplinary, AMSTAR-2 Compliant Review of Systematic Reviews and Metanalyses

Federica Medici et al.

Summary: This article analyzed systematic reviews and meta-analyses on sarcopenia in patients undergoing radiotherapy. The results showed that sarcopenia has a negative impact on overall survival in head and neck cancer patients receiving radiotherapy and can be improved through nutritional and physical interventions.

Obesity reduced survival with 5-fluorouracil and did not protect against chemotherapy-induced cachexia or immune cell cytotoxicity in mice

Brandon N. VanderVeen et al.

Summary: Fluorouracil/5-flourouracil (5FU) is a commonly used first-line chemotherapy drug, but its toxicities can negatively affect patient's quality of life and treatment outcomes. Obesity may exacerbate the toxicities of 5FU, and obese mice show increased susceptibility to 5FU-induced cytotoxicity.

Visceral obesity and incident cancer and cardiovascular disease: An integrative review of the epidemiological evidence

Erika Aparecida Silveira et al.

Summary: Evidence suggests a strong relationship between obesity, cancer, and cardiovascular disease risk, with visceral obesity potentially playing a more pro-oncogenic role than total body fat. However, controversial evidence exists regarding the impact of visceral obesity on CVD risk, especially with sex-specific and aging analyses. Further epidemiological studies stratified by sex and including older adults are needed to explore these associations.

Impact of body-mass index on treatment and outcome in locally advanced rectal cancer: A secondary, post-hoc analysis of the CAO/ARO/AIO-04 randomized phase III trial

Markus Diefenhardt et al.

Summary: The study found that underweight and overweight patients had inferior disease-free survival, underweight patients experienced more organ toxicity, and obesity was associated with a higher risk of abdominoperineal resection and poorer overall survival.

Computed Tomography-Based Body Composition in Patients With Ovarian Cancer: Association With Chemotoxicity and Prognosis

Maria Del Grande et al.

Summary: This study found that CT-derived body composition features may predict the risk of chemotoxicity in ovarian cancer patients. Visceral adipose tissue and skeletal muscle density are associated with chemotherapy cycle delays, while skeletal muscle area is associated with early discontinuation of chemotherapy.

Segmentation and Linear Measurement for Body Composition Analysis using Slice-O-Matic and Horos

Sean Steele et al.

Summary: Body composition analysis through CT and MRI can help assess surgery risk and disease prognosis. Segmentation analysis provides detailed information but is time-consuming and requires specialized training. Linear measurements are efficient for preoperative evaluation but do not provide information on adipose tissue composition. Both methods have wide applications in predicting surgical outcomes and disease progression.

Association of Obesity With Survival Outcomes in Patients With Cancer A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Fausto Petrelli et al.

Summary: Obesity is associated with increased mortality in cancer patients overall, but patients with obesity and certain types of cancer such as lung cancer, renal cell carcinoma, and melanoma may have better survival outcomes compared to non-obese patients with the same cancers. Weight-reducing strategies could potentially help reduce mortality in these patients.

Sarcopenia and dosimetric parameters in relation to treatment-related leukopenia and survival in anal cancer

Martin P. Nilsson et al.

Summary: Sarcopenia was associated with increased risks of both WBC G3+ toxicity and death following CRT for locally advanced anal cancer. In this study, radiation dose to PBM was not associated with WBC G3+ toxicity. However, PBM was not used as an organ at risk for radiotherapy planning purposes and doses to PBM were high, which may have obscured any dose-response relationships.

Summary: The study assessed the association between body composition and prognosis in UTUC patients treated with radical nephroureterectomy. Body composition parameters were found to be independent predictors of prognosis, aiding in patient stratification and postoperative treatment optimization.
