Real-world clinicopathological features and outcome of thymic neuroendocrine tumors: a retrospective single-institution analysis

Yeye Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the clinicopathological features and treatment outcomes of thymic neuroendocrine tumors in the real world. The results showed that radical resection and Masaoka-Koga stage were independent prognostic factors for the survival of patients. High-level clinical evidence is needed for systemic therapy and integrated management of patients with advanced-stage disease.

Clinicopathological features and current treatment outcomes of neuroendocrine thymic tumours

Wentao Fang et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the clinicopathological features, diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes of 146 patients with neuroendocrine thymic tumors. The majority of patients had advanced disease, and complete resection was associated with better survival. Specific diagnostic tools and novel therapeutic agents are needed to improve the management outcomes of this disease.

Molecular Pathology of Well-Differentiated Pulmonary and Thymic Neuroendocrine Tumors: What Do Pathologists Need to Know?

Marco Volante et al.

Summary: Thoracic neuroendocrine tumors are classified into typical and atypical carcinoids based on mitotic index and presence of necrosis, showing distinct molecular profiles and clinical behaviors. Genetic susceptibility, such as MEN1 syndrome, may contribute to the development of these tumors, and genetic counseling is recommended for patients with evidence of neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia-to-neoplasia progression or multifocal disease.

Summary: Nuclear medicine plays a crucial role in managing neuroendocrine neoplasms, using techniques such as peptide receptor radionuclide therapy and positron emission tomography. Recommendations from the European Association of Nuclear Medicine provide valuable guidance for the diagnosis and treatment of NETs.

Summary: Resection of thymic tumors with vascular involvement can be performed with optimal surgical results in a high-volume center. Vascular involvement is associated with a higher recurrence rate but does not affect long-term survival.
