Plasma total tau predicts executive dysfunction in Parkinson's disease

Wei-Ting Lin et al.

Summary: The study found that lower levels of plasma alpha-syn were correlated with motor dysfunction in PD patients, while higher levels of plasma t-tau were associated with lower cognitive performance, especially in attention and executive function. These results suggest the potential use of plasma biomarkers to predict specific cognitive performance in PD subjects.

Fatty Acid-Binding Protein 7 (FABP-7), Glutamic Acid and Neurofilament Light Chain (NFL) as Potential Markers of Neurodegenerative Disorders in Psoriatic Patients-A Pilot Study

Julia Nowowiejska et al.

Summary: This study found that the concentration of FABP-7 and NFL, which are present in the brain, was significantly higher in psoriasis patients compared to controls before treatment, but decreased after treatment. GA concentration did not differ significantly between patients and controls, but showed a negative correlation with CRP. The duration of psoriasis does not seem to directly affect the risk of neurodegeneration, but does affect the severity of the disease. Elevated FABP-7 and NFL may be potential indicators of neurodegenerative diseases development in psoriatics, and GA may correspond with neuroinflammation in psoriasis.

A preliminary study about neurofilament light chain and tau protein levels in psoriasis: Correlation with disease severity

Summary: Elevated serum levels of neurofilament light chain and tau protein, along with positive correlations with PASI score, suggest a higher risk of cognitive decline in moderate-to-severe psoriasis patients.

Psoriasis: Comorbidities

Fumikazu Yamazaki

Summary: Psoriasis used to be considered a skin disease with complications related to diet and obesity, but it is now recognized as a systemic inflammatory disease with cytokines that can induce various other diseases. Individuals with psoriasis have higher incidences of cerebral and cardiovascular diseases and tend to die at a younger age. Clear guidelines have not yet been established for how much vascular lesion testing should be performed in patients with psoriasis.
