Interrogating the relationship between the microstructure of amphiphilic poly(ethylene glycol-b-caprolactone) copolymers and their colloidal assemblies using non-interfering techniques

Khandokar Sadique Faisal et al.

Summary: Understanding the microstructural parameters of amphiphilic copolymers is crucial for controlling the formation and structure of aggregated colloids. Through an integrated approach using non-interfering techniques, the relationship between copolymer microstructure and aggregate structure was investigated. Different transitions in aggregate structure were observed for copolymers with varying PEG and PCL block lengths when increasing the hydrophobic fPCL, providing grounds for a phase diagram relating copolymer microstructure to aggregation behavior and structure.

Escape from abluminal LRP1-mediated clearance for boosted nanoparticle brain delivery and brain metastasis treatment

Naveed Ullah Khan et al.

Summary: Breast cancer brain metastases (BCBMs) are challenging due to their intracranial location and limited response to chemotherapy. Research has shown promising results with nanoparticles (NPs-K-s-A) targeting LRP1 and MMP1 to overcome the blood-brain barrier and enhance drug delivery, leading to improved therapeutic outcomes in mice with BCBMs. This fusion peptide-based drug delivery strategy shows potential for clinical management of BCBMs.

Strategies for delivering therapeutics across the blood-brain barrier

Georg C. Terstappen et al.

Summary: The blood-brain barrier presents a challenge for delivering therapeutics to the central nervous system, particularly for biopharmaceuticals. Non-invasive approaches have been developed to help overcome this challenge, with increasing research efforts focusing on technologies to deliver therapeutics to the CNS, some of which have entered clinical testing. Developing effective strategies for crossing the blood-brain barrier is crucial for treating CNS disorders, with a particular emphasis on non-invasive methods such as receptor-mediated transcytosis and the use of neurotropic viruses, nanoparticles, and exosomes.

Brain concentrations of glutamate and GABA in human epilepsy: A review

Gabrielle L. Sarlo et al.

Summary: The imbalance between excitation and inhibition in epilepsy is related to changes in glutamate and GABA levels, with most studies showing increased glutamate in epileptic regions. Future research should consider medication use, measure GABA, glutamate, and glutamine levels, use high-tesla strength MRI, and evaluate the timing of microdialysis further.

Reactive Oxygen Species Responsive Polymers for Drug Delivery Systems

Fengxiang Gao et al.

Summary: Reactive oxygen species (ROS) play a vital role in regulating physiological functions, but elevated ROS levels can lead to diseases. ROS-responsive polymer carriers offer advantages such as targeted drug delivery, reduced toxicity on normal cells, and controlled drug release compared to traditional chemotherapy agents. These formulations have great potential in biomedicine and are the focus of research for future applications.
