Liposomal 2-Methoxyestradiol Nanoparticles for Treatment of Uterine Leiomyoma in a Patient-Derived Xenograft Mouse Model

Mostafa A. Borahay et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that liposomal 2-ME nanoparticles can effectively inhibit the growth of uterine leiomyoma, reduce the expression of the proliferation marker Ki67, and increase the expression of the apoptosis marker cleaved caspase-3. Further preclinical studies are needed to evaluate the pharmacokinetics, maximal tolerated dose, and safety of liposomal-2ME before clinical trials.

Menstrual flow as a non-invasive source of endometrial organoids

Tereza Cindrova-Davies et al.

Summary: A novel technique using organoids derived from menstrual flow was presented as a non-invasive and personalized approach for investigating gynecological conditions like endometriosis and failed implantation after IVF. By comparing the organoids derived from menstrual flow with traditional biopsy samples, researchers found similar transcriptome signature, efficiency, and response to hormones, indicating a promising alternative method for diagnosis and treatment of common gynecological conditions.

Somatic cell-derived organoids as prototypes of human epithelial tissues and diseases

Masayuki Fujii et al.

Summary: This review highlights the approaches used to generate somatic cell-derived organoids for modeling epithelial tissue and understanding disease progression. It discusses how advancements in understanding the regulation of epithelial tissue stem cells have led to the development of organoids, which retain the characteristics of their tissue of origin. Additionally, it mentions the growing effort in using organoids to model human diseases and their contributions to understanding disease biology.

Fibronectin mediates activation of stromal fibroblasts by SPARC in endometrial cancer cells

Sachiko Yoshida et al.

Summary: In endometrial cancer cells, SPARC expression activates fibroblasts through inducing AKT phosphorylation and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, leading to enhanced contraction ability and expression of mesenchymal- and fibroblast-associated factors in cancer-associated fibroblasts. Co-culture with SPARC-expressing cells promotes fibroblast activation in the presence of fibronectin, potentially contributing to cancer cell mobility and invasion.

A Natural Xenogeneic Endometrial Extracellular Matrix Hydrogel Toward Improving Current Human in vitro Models and Future in vivo Applications

Sara Lopez-Martinez et al.

Summary: Decellularization techniques were used to create biocompatible extracellular matrix hydrogels from porcine endometrium, providing a supportive environment for in vitro cell culture and tissue regeneration. The EndoECM exhibited tissue-specific features and supported the culture of human endometrial cells, showing potential for endometrial pathologies treatment. This study presents new strategies in reproductive techniques and endometrial repair using biomimetic endometrial milieus.
