Robust HIV-specific CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell responses distinguish elite control in adolescents living with HIV from viremic nonprogressors

Vinicius A. Vieira et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the T-cell immunophenotype and HIV-specific response in pediatric elite controllers (PECs) and compared them to other adolescents. The results showed that PECs had lower immune activation levels and higher T-cell responses, which may contribute to viral control.

Low CCR5 expression protects HIV-specific CD4+T cells of elite controllers from viral entry

Mathieu Claireaux et al.

Summary: Individuals who can naturally control HIV infection have lower levels of the viral co-receptor CCR5 in specific CD4 (+) T cells, which is due to mutations or receptor internalization. These individuals also maintain CD4 + T cells with high avidity for Gag antigens and potent effector functions. The downregulation of CCR5 in specific CD4 + T cells contributes to decreased susceptibility to CCR5-dependent HIV entry in these individuals.

TCF-1 regulates HIV-specific CD8+ T cell expansion capacity

Rachel L. Rutishauser et al.

Summary: The transcription factor TCF-1 plays a crucial role in regulating the memory properties and expansion capacity of virus-specific CD8(+) T cells, which are important for controlling HIV infection. Increasing TCF-1 levels may enhance the secondary expansion capacity of HIV-specific CD8(+) T cells.

CD8+ T cells fail to limit SIV reactivation following ART withdrawal until after viral amplification

Afam A. Okoye et al.

Summary: The study found that CD8+ T cell depletion did not significantly affect the control of SIV reactivation during ART, but after ART cessation, rhesus macaques with CD8+ T cell depletion showed a significant increase in post-ART plasma viremia.
