Phase transformation and magnetic properties of fully dense Sm(Fe0.8Co0.2)11Ti bulk magnets

Hui-Dong Qian et al.

Summary: This study successfully produced high density sintered Sm(Fe0.8Co0.2)(11)Ti bulk magnets using a newly developed high pressure pressing method. The purity of the hard magnetic ThMn12 phase in the bulk magnet was over 97 wt.%. The phase transformation behavior from amorphous to ThMn12 phase during heat treatment was systematically investigated, achieving high remanent magnetization and maximum energy product. The achieved maximum energy product in the bulk magnet is the highest reported among all SmFe12-based bulk magnets.

Recent advances in SmFe12-based permanent magnets

Y. K. Takahashi et al.

Summary: In order to achieve a sustainable society, low (or even zero) CO2 emissions green technology is essential. Permanent magnets play a crucial role in electric power conversion for applications like EVs, HEVs, and wind power generation turbines. This paper reviews the phase stability, structure, and magnetic properties of a Fe-rich SmFe12-based compound, suggesting a possible way to realize a strong permanent magnet in bulk form.

Simultaneous tuning of the magnetic anisotropy and thermal stability of α-phase Fe16N2

D. Odkhuu et al.

Summary: Enhancing both the uniaxial magnetic anisotropy (Ku) and thermal stability of alpha ''-phase Fe16N2 without heavy-metal or rare-earth elements has been a challenge. Through rigid-band analysis, replacing Fe with metal elements containing more valence electrons has been shown to significantly increase Ku, providing a guideline for manipulating Ku and thermal stability in 3d-only metals for RE-free permanent magnet applications.

Improving Thermodynamic Stability of SmFe12-Type Permanent Magnets from High Entropy Effect

Arkapol Saengdeejing et al.

Summary: SmFe12-based compounds exhibit excellent intrinsic hard magnetic properties, but face difficulties in synthesizing due to thermodynamic instability. Multi-element random alloying and creation of special quasirandom structures are possible pathways to improve thermodynamic stability.
