Optical Imaging of the Molecular Mobility of Single Polystyrene Nanospheres

Shasha Liu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a thermal-optical imaging technique to determine the glass transition and rubber-fluid transition temperatures of single isolated polystyrene nanospheres for the first time. The experiments reveal the influence of the substrate on the glass transition temperature and the existence of a surface layer with enhanced molecular mobility.

Evanescent scattering imaging of single protein binding kinetics and DNA conformation changes

Pengfei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a method for detecting and imaging single proteins on a plain glass surface through the interference between evanescent lights and the natural roughness of the glass, providing a label-free solution for single molecule detection without the need for specially designed nanomaterials. It also paves the way for detecting small biological molecules.

Time-Resolved and Label-Free Evanescent Light-Scattering Microscopy for Mass Quantification of Protein Binding to Single Lipid Vesicles

Mattias Sjoberg et al.

Summary: The label-free evanescent light-scattering microscopy can accurately resolve the binding of proteins to individual lipid vesicles. A theoretical model is proposed to quantify the mass bound to the vesicles based on changes in light-scattering intensity. This method avoids signal interference from nonspecific protein binding and greatly enhances sensitivity through averaging intensities from multiple vesicles.
