Trichlorfon exposure in common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) leads to oxidative stress, neurotoxicity, and immune responses

Xianfeng Wang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that trichlorfon induced more severe oxidative stresses in the liver than in the brain of common carp, potentially leading to neurotoxicity and affecting immune responses. In addition, neurotransmitter contents were reduced in the brain, while inflammatory cytokines increased in response to trichlorfon exposure. Histological observations also showed changes in melano-macrophage centers in the head kidney and spleen of exposed carp.

Exposure to PM2.5 induces neurotoxicity, mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress and inflammation in human SH-SY5Y neuronal cells

Chien-Hung Lin et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that exposure to PM2.5 may have neurotoxic effects on brain structures, causing cellular damage and mitochondrial dysfunction, while decreasing survival rates. Additionally, PM2.5 induces oxidative stress and inflammatory responses, reducing the expression levels of survival genes and neuroprotective genes.

Abnormal neurotransmission of GABA and serotonin in Caenorhabditis elegans induced by Fumonisin B1

Xiaojuan Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the neurobehavioral toxicity effects of Fumonisin B1 (FB1) on Caenorhabditis elegans were investigated. FB1 caused dose- and time-dependent behavioral defects and damaged GABAergic and serotonergic neurons. The relative content of GABA and serotonin decreased significantly and abnormal expression of mRNA levels associated with GABA and serotonin were found. The neurobehavioral toxicity effect of FB1 may be mediated by abnormal neurotransmission of GABA and serotonin. This study provides important information for understanding the neurotoxicity of FB1.

Anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects of natural cordycepin in rotenone-induced PD models through inhibiting Drp1-mediated mitochondrial fission

Xiao-Ling Zhang et al.

Summary: Cordycepin has been shown to ameliorate motor dysfunction and dopaminergic neurons loss induced by rotenone exposure, maintain normal mitochondrial morphology, increase ATP content and MMP, and reduce mitochondrial ROS levels and complex 1 activity. Additionally, cordycepin effectively inhibits the expression of NLRP3 inflammasome components and the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines. The study also demonstrates that NLRP3 inflammasome activation within neurons can be suppressed by the mitochondrial division inhibitor Mdivi-1.

The Roles of Oxidative Stress in Regulating Autophagy in Methylmercury-induced Neurotoxicity

Yanfeng Wei et al.

Summary: Methylmercury (MeHg) is a potential neurotoxin that exerts its neurotoxicity through oxidative stress and autophagy, with evidence suggesting that oxidative stress regulates the autophagy pathway. MeHg-induced neurotoxicity is mainly mediated by mTOR-dependent and mTOR-independent autophagy signaling pathways. The current review explores the regulation of autophagy by reactive oxygen species (ROS) and Nrf2 in MeHg neurotoxicity, offering a new perspective on the mechanism of MeHg neurotoxicity.

Fractionation, characterization and anti-fatigue activity of polysaccharides from Brassica rapa L.

Wenjin Zhao et al.

Summary: Limited information is available on polysaccharides in Brassica rapa L. (BRP) cultivated at high-altitude plateaus. An efficient ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE) procedure was optimized for extracting polysaccharides from Brassica rapa L. and resulted in four fractions with different physicochemical properties and antioxidant activities. BRP-80 showed the best performance in antioxidant and anti-fatigue activities in animal experiments. Potential for developing Brassica rapa L. polysaccharides as natural antioxidants and anti-fatigue dietary supplements was suggested.
