A Comparative Research on Corrosion Behavior of Electroplated and Magnetron Sputtered Chromium Coatings

Stefano Mauro Martinuzzi et al.

Summary: In this study, chromium layers with a thickness of 800 nm were deposited directly onto copper substrates using magnetron sputtering and direct current electrodeposition methods. The functional and aesthetical properties of the coatings were compared. The magnetron sputtered coatings exhibited a darker but reflective appearance, superior thickness homogeneity, and comparable or better corrosion resistance compared to the electroplated samples.

A comparative study on high-temperature air oxidation of Cr-coated E110 zirconium alloy deposited by magnetron sputtering and electroplating

D. Sidelev et al.

Summary: Chromium coatings were deposited on E110 zirconium alloy by magnetron sputtering and electroplating. The magnetron-deposited coatings showed stable oxidation behavior and better adhesion compared to the electroplated coatings, which had cracks and defects in the interlayer.

Hot target magnetron sputtering enhanced by RF-ICP source: Microstructure and functional properties of CrNx coatings

V. A. Grudinin et al.

Summary: This study successfully deposited high-rate CrNx coatings using hot Cr target magnetron sputtering enhanced by a radio-frequency inductively coupled plasma (RF-ICP) source. The microstructure and functional properties of the coatings were controlled by adjusting nitrogen flow rate and substrate bias potential. The hardness, elastic modulus, adhesion, friction coefficients, and corrosion resistance of the coatings were strongly influenced by the phase composition.

Microstructure and mechanical properties of nano-multilayer structured (AlCrMoTaTi)Nx coatings deposited by closed field unbalanced magnetron sputtering

Tao Wang et al.

Summary: (AlCrMoTaTi)Nx nano-multilayer coatings with different N concentration were fabricated by varying the nitrogen flow rate using a closed field unbalanced magnetron sputtering. The phase structure changed with the nitrogen flow rate, resulting in different properties of the coatings.
