Recent advances in bismuth-based photocatalysts: Environment and energy applications

This review provides a summary of Bi-based photocatalysts, including their applications in organic pollutant removal, hydrogen production, and oxygen production. The review also highlights the preparation strategies to enhance photocatalytic performance and discusses the possible photocatalytic mechanism, offering new insights for the fabrication of efficient Bi-based photocatalysts. Finally, the current challenges and future development directions of Bi-based photocatalysts are summarized.

Piezo-photocatalytic activity of mechanochemically synthesized BiVO4 for dye cleaning

Summary: Single-phase BiVO4 powder was successfully synthesized at 600 degrees C using mechanochemical high energy ball milling method within 4 hours. The combined photocatalytic and piezocatalytic activity of BiVO4 powder exhibited high piezo-photocatalytic efficiency, with significant dye degradation observed within 240 minutes. The study confirmed the presence of various oxidation states of V, Bi, and O elements in the synthesized powder, contributing to the observed catalytic efficiencies.

Efficient full spectrum responsive photocatalytic NO conversion at Bi2Ti2O7: Co-effect of plasmonic Bi and oxygen vacancies

Summary: This study develops a full-spectrum Bi@Bi2Ti2O7 photocatalyst with rich-oxygen vacancies (OVs) via a one-pot hydrothermal method. The optimized composite photocatalyst exhibits significantly improved photocatalytic efficiency for removing ppb-level NO under visible-near infrared (Vis-NIR) irradiation. The enhanced performance is attributed to the co-effect of Bi and OVs, which benefits the adsorption and photocatalytic activation of NO, as well as broadens light absorption to the near infrared region.

Combining photocatalytic process and biological treatment for Reactive Green 12 degradation: optimization, mineralization, and phytotoxicity with seed germination

After 7 days of biological treatment, the discoloration rates for the pretreated solutions under photocatalysis for 4 and 8 hours were 34.5% and 19% respectively, while the combined processes achieved better results with a COD removal rate of 74.9%.

Band gap modified zinc oxide nanoparticles: an efficient visible light active catalyst for wastewater treatment

Single-step synthesis of oxygen-doped hollow porous graphitic carbon nitride for photocatalytic ciprofloxacin decomposition

Summary: In this study, a series of oxygen-doped hollow porous surface graphitic carbon nitride samples were prepared by one-pot thermal polycondensation, showing superior photocatalytic performance for the degradation of organic pollutants in wastewater containing pharmaceutical waste. The improved light absorption, reduced recombination rate of photogenerated electron and hole, and enhanced electron transportation of the OCN samples contributed to their excellent degradation performance.

Additionally, the as-prepared NPCZS composites showed excellent photostability and recyclability.
