Marine Boundary Layer Decoupling and the Stable Isotopic Composition of Water Vapor

Joseph Galewsky et al.

Summary: This study explores the transport of water vapor within the marine boundary layer and its response to decoupling. Surface measurements of water vapor isotopic composition reveal that the degree of decoupling determines the mixing between surface fluxes and water vapor reservoirs aloft, and some amount of mixing occurs even under strongly decoupled conditions. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the potential changes in marine low-cloud frequencies within the current climate and as the climate warms.

Determining the Isotopic Composition of Surface Water Vapor Flux From High-Frequency Observations Using Flux-Gradient and Keeling Plot Methods

Yongbo Hu et al.

Summary: This study compares the delta(E) calculated using different methods and found that concentration-dependent field characterization of measurement errors can improve the accuracy of regression models. The results show broad agreement between the Keeling plot method, OLS regression, YS regression, and the flux-gradient method. Additionally, the study suggests that the Keeling method with OLS regression may be less sensitive to fetch than the flux-gradient method.

Abrupt Common Era hydroclimate shifts drive west Greenland ice cap change

Matthew B. Osman et al.

Summary: Ice core archives are valuable for reconstructing rapid past climate changes at high latitudes. This study, based on an ice core collected from the Nuussuaq Peninsula in west Greenland, reveals abrupt regional hydroclimate shifts over the past two thousand years, including significant changes in snow accumulation. The findings suggest a recent reversal in the response of west Greenland ice caps to climate change, contrasting with patterns observed over the last millennium.

Quantifying the Stable Water Isotopologue Exchange Between the Snow Surface and Lower Atmosphere by Direct Flux Measurements

S. Wahl et al.

Summary: Direct measurements of stable water isotopologue fluxes in polar areas revealed diurnal variations in different isotopologue fluxes. The isotopic composition of sublimation and deposition fluxes showed dependency on snow and vapor isotopic composition, respectively.
