Cardiometabolic profile of young women with hypoprolactinemia

Robert Krysiak et al.

Summary: Women with low prolactin levels have an increased cardiometabolic risk compared to those with normal levels. Reducing the dose of cabergoline can reverse these abnormalities.

Long-term cardiometabolic outcome in patients with pituitary adenoma diagnosed in chilhood and adolescence

Salvatore Giovinazzo et al.

Summary: The study found an increased prevalence of overweight/obesity only in pediatric and adolescent patients with GH- or ACTH-secreting pituitary adenomas. Additionally, the study suggests a careful metabolic management for patients during treatment, as there was no correlation found between pituitary tumor size and BMI in the study.

Effects of Pituitary Surgery and High-Dose Cabergoline Therapy on Metabolic Profile in Patients With Prolactinoma Resistant to Conventional Cabergoline Treatment

Summary: Pituitary surgery may improve lipid metabolism, while high-dose cabergoline may have beneficial effects on both insulin secretion and peripheral sensitivity, leading to overall metabolic improvement.

Adverse body composition and lipid parameters in patients with prolactinoma: a case-control study

Anna Sophia Posawetz et al.

Summary: This study compared body composition, glucose, and lipid metabolism parameters between untreated prolactinoma patients and controls, as well as changes after cabergoline therapy initiation. Prolactinoma patients had higher BMI and fat mass, elevated LDL, and decreased HDL levels. Cabergoline treatment significantly reduced total and LDL cholesterol levels, particularly in men.

Is there an increased cardiovascular risk in patients with prolactinoma? A challenging question

Dilek Yazici et al.

Summary: The study found that patients with prolactinoma had significantly greater epicardial adipose tissue thickness (EATT) and carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) compared to the control group, but both groups had similar cardiac systolic and diastolic functions. EATT was correlated with body mass index, fasting blood glucose, hemoglobin A1c, and triglyceride levels.

Hyperprolactinemia after menopause: Diagnosis and management

Renata S. Auriemma et al.

Summary: Most prolactinomas are diagnosed in women of reproductive age, with fewer cases diagnosed in postmenopausal women. Limited data on management and prognosis in postmenopausal women suggest that greater clinical effort may be required for diagnosis and treatment. Reassessment of therapeutic management may be necessary due to the decline in prolactin levels and lack of fertility concerns in postmenopausal women.

Impact of primary medical or surgical therapy on prolactinoma patients' BMI and metabolic profile over the long-term

Lukas Andereggen et al.

Summary: In this comparative study on patients with prolactinoma, both transsphenoidal surgery (TSS) and dopamine agonists (DAs) were effective in controlling hyperprolactinemia and hypogonadism in the majority of patients over the long-term. While both treatment modalities led to improvements in BMI and fasting glucose levels, changes in the lipid profile were minimal and independent of the treatment used. The primary predictor for long-term obesity was found to be increased BMI at baseline, rather than the choice of treatment strategy.
