Lifestyle Modifies the Diabetes-Related Metabolic Risk, Conditional on Individual Genetic Differences

Jisu Shin et al.

Summary: By analyzing data from the UK Biobank, we found a correlation between individual-level lifestyle modifications and changes in diabetes-related metabolic traits. Physical activity was found to modulate the genetic effects on glucose, HbA1c, C-reactive protein, and systolic blood pressure, while alcohol and smoking modulated the effects on BMI, glucose, waist-hip ratio, and diastolic and systolic blood pressure. Additionally, we observed significant phenotypic modulations by lifestyle covariates that were not attributed to genetic effects in the model.

Pri-miR-144 rs9279 is associated with type 2 diabetes and regulation of stress response

Yu-Xiang Yan et al.

Summary: This study found an association between miR-144 SNP rs9279 and increased risk of T2D, with carriers of the GG genotype showing significantly upregulated expression of miRNAs and cortisol. The SNP may contribute to the development of T2D by altering regulation of the stress response.

MiR-690, an exosomal-derived miRNA from M2-polarized macrophages, improves insulin sensitivity in obese mice

Wei Ying et al.

Summary: Insulin resistance is a significant issue in type 2 diabetes and obesity, while anti-inflammatory M2-like macrophages play a role in maintaining metabolic balance. Research has shown that exosomes secreted by M2 polarized macrophages contain miRNAs that can improve glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity in obese mice. MiR-690, found in abundance in these exosomes, acts as an insulin sensitizer both in vivo and in vitro, suggesting it could be a potential therapeutic agent for metabolic diseases.

Summary: The study found that AST supplementation can decrease plasma levels of MDA and IL-6, and decrease the expression of miR-146a over time. Therefore, AST supplementation may be beneficial for improving circulating MDA and IL-6, and down-regulating miR-146a.

Circulating microRNA-122, microRNA-126-3p and microRNA-146a are associated with inflammation in patients with pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes mellitus: A case control study

Fahime Zeinali et al.

Summary: The study investigates the differential expression of miRNAs in T2DM and pre-diabetic patients, suggesting potential roles of miRNAs in the pathogenesis of T2DM. Positive correlations were found between miRNA-122 and inflammatory factors as well as insulin resistance, while negative correlations were observed between miRNA-126-3p and miRNA-146a levels with these factors. Further studies are needed to validate these findings.
