Upregulation of Unfolded Protein Response and ER Stress-Related IL-23 Production in M1 Macrophages from Ankylosing Spondylitis Patients

Alireza Rezaiemanesh et al.

Summary: ER stress in macrophages from AS patients plays a role in the increased production of IL-23. The autophagy pathway is not involved in the modulation of IL-23 production by AS macrophages.

PRMT5: a putative oncogene and therapeutic target in prostate cancer

Elena Beketova et al.

Summary: PRMT5, a protein arginine methyltransferase, has been found to potentially act as an oncogene in various cancers, particularly in prostate cancer. Studies have shown that PRMT5 can regulate gene expression through interacting with other proteins, affecting the development and progression of cancer. Targeting PRMT5 could be a promising approach for enhancing the treatment of prostate cancer.

From Cancer Epidemiology to Policy and Practice: the Role of a Comprehensive Cancer Center

Robert A. Hiatt et al.

Summary: This paper describes the San Francisco Cancer Initiative as a model for reducing the burden of cancer and associated inequalities. By implementing evidence-based initiatives focused on prevention and early detection of five common cancers, SF CAN has made progress and faced challenges after 5 years of activity. It highlights how Comprehensive Cancer Centers can leverage cancer epidemiology to reduce the population burden of cancer through community engagement and multiple stakeholders.

Hsa_circ_0010235 functions as an oncogenic drive in non-small cell lung cancer by modulating miR-433-3p/TIPRL axis

Furui Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that hsa_circ_0010235 and TIPRL were highly expressed in NSCLC tissues and cells, while miR-433-3p was downregulated. Knockdown of hsa_circ_0010235 or overexpression of miR-433-3p inhibited proliferation and autophagy, but promoted apoptosis in NSCLC cells. Hsa_circ_0010235 acted as a sponge for miR-433-3p to upregulate TIPRL expression, impacting NSCLC development.

Tumor-derived osteopontin drives the resident fibroblast to myofibroblast differentiation through Twist1 to promote breast cancer progression

Ramesh Butti et al.

Summary: This study reveals the crosstalk between cancer cells and stromal fibroblasts that drives tumor progression. Tumor cells stimulate fibroblasts to differentiate into myofibroblasts by secreting OPN, which in turn secrete CXCL12 to promote epithelial to mesenchymal transition in tumor cells.

Expression of Phosphorylated BRD4 Is Markedly Associated with the Activation Status of the PP2A Pathway and Shows a Strong Prognostic Value in Triple Negative Breast Cancer Patients

Marta Sanz-Alvarez et al.

Summary: BRD4 phosphorylation plays a crucial role in triple negative breast cancer, with high levels associated with patient recurrence. This phosphorylation predicts shorter overall and event-free survival, making it an independent prognostic factor in this disease. These findings highlight the potential clinical and therapeutic usefulness of the PP2A/BRD4 axis as a novel molecular target to overcome resistance to BRD4 inhibitors.

PRMT5: An Emerging Target for Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma

Michael K. C. Lee et al.

Summary: The overall survival of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remains poor and its incidence is rising. Protein arginine methyltransferase 5 (PRMT5) overexpression is associated with worse survival and inhibition of PRMT5 results in decreased cancer growth across multiple cancers, including PDAC. PRMT5 inhibition induces altered RNA processing, creating a vulnerability that can be exploited as a novel therapeutic approach.
