Central obesity accelerates leukocyte telomere length (LTL) shortening in apparently healthy adults: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Mahdieh Abbasalizad-Farhangi

Summary: This meta-analysis evaluated the association between central obesity and leukocyte telomere length in adults. The results showed a negative association between higher leukocyte telomere length and waist circumference, while the association with waist to hip ratio was not significant.

Obesity Accelerates Leukocyte Telomere Length Shortening in Apparently Healthy Adults: A Meta-Analysis

Sheida Khosravaniardakani et al.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the association between obesity and telomere length. The results indicated that obesity was associated with shorter telomere length. However, caution should be taken in inferring causality due to the observational nature of the included studies. Further longitudinal studies are needed for better inference of causal association.

Leukocyte Telomere Length as a Molecular Biomarker of Coronary Heart Disease

Olga Zimnitskaya et al.

Summary: This review examines the role of telomeres and telomerase in the development and progression of coronary heart disease (CHD) through preclinical and clinical studies. It suggests that relative leukocyte telomere length (LTL) is associated with the development of cardiovascular diseases such as CHD and essential hypertension. However, implementing these findings in clinical practice is challenging due to differences in study design, methodology, and sample characteristics.

Longitudinal telomere length and body composition in healthy term-born infants during the first two years of life

Kirsten S. de Fluiter et al.

Summary: The study found that leukocyte telomere length (LTL) considerably shortens (8.5%) during the first 2 years of life in healthy, term-born infants, and that this shortening is associated with fat mass percentage, fat mass index, and visceral fat mass at age 2 years, suggesting that adverse adiposity programming in early life may contribute to more LTL shortening.

Summary: This study found a negative association between paediatric obesity and telomere length, with the negative trend being more significant in boys than girls. Weight control in children may have a beneficial effect on telomere length.

Robert T. Fairman et al.

Summary: The study found that both youth and parents have positive and negative outcome expectancies regarding e-cigarette use, including benefits such as stress relief and negative impacts such as social consequences and health risks. To reduce youth e-cigarette use, regulations and public communication campaigns can target these outcome expectancies.

Predicting Factors on Modeling Health Behavior: A Systematic Review

Michael A. Leman et al.

Summary: This study summarizes the current evidence on learning health behaviors through modeling, and identifies predictive factors such as characteristics of role models and observers, use of technology, peer role models, types of information, adherence to timeframe, opportunity to practice, support by others, self-efficacy, self-regulation, and policy incentives. These factors play a key role in predicting the effectiveness of role modeling in promoting health behavior change.
