A novel penalized inverse-variance weighted estimator for Mendelian randomization with applications to COVID-19 outcomes

Summary: This article introduces a novel penalized inverse-variance weighted (pIVW) estimator to address the issue of weak instrumental variables in Mendelian randomization studies. The pIVW estimator is applied to estimate the causal effects of obesity-related exposures on COVID-19 outcomes, revealing associations between hypertensive disease, peripheral vascular disease, higher body mass index and increased risks of COVID-19.

Summary: This study investigated the association of serum adipokine levels with early atherosclerosis markers and microvascular complications in T1DM patients. Results showed that leptin and resistin levels were significantly higher in overweight and obese patients, while adiponectin was negatively correlated with BMI. Resistin was independently associated with arterial stiffness in T1DM patients, indicating its role as an inflammatory marker.

Relationships between anthropometric adiposity indexes and bone mineral density in a cross-sectional Chinese study

Summary: This study found that spine bone mineral density in females decreased significantly with the increase of ABSI, while in males over 60 years, there was an inverse association with ABSI. Negative associations of spine BMD with WC, WHR, and WHtR were shown in females under 60 years, while there was a positive association with BMI in males over 60 years. ABSI had a more remarkable association with spine BMD compared to the other anthropometric indexes.
