In-situ electrochemical induced artificial solid electrolyte interphase for MnO@C nanocomposite enabling long-lived aqueous zinc-ion batteries

Shuyue Li et al.

Summary: In this study, an in-situ electrochemical induced artificial solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) was discovered to prevent the excessive dissolution of manganese oxides in rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs), leading to an extremely excellent cycle performance with minimal capacity decay. This strategy provides a new proposal to develop high stable manganese oxide cathodes for AZIBs.

Uncovering sulfur doping effect in MnO2 nanosheets as an efficient cathode for aqueous zinc ion battery

Yajun Zhao et al.

Summary: This study proposes sulfur doped MnO2 nanosheets as a high-performance cathode material for zinc-ion batteries, exhibiting large discharge capacity, high rate performance, and long cycle life. The incorporation of sulfur improves the intrinsic electronic conductivity of MnO2 and accelerates reaction kinetics by weakening the electrostatic interactions with Zn(2+) cations. The sulfur doping also induces an amorphous surface with abundant oxygen defects, contributing to additional Zn storage sites with pseudocapacitive behavior.

Summary: This study demonstrates a facile plasma-induced strategy to introduce oxygen vacancies into epsilon-MnO2, resulting in oxygen vacancies-rich epsilon-MnO2 nanosheets (epsilon-MnO2-x) with satisfactory electrochemical performance. The synergistic effect of oxygen vacancies and exposed free-standing collector enables the epsilon-MnO2-x nanosheets electrode to deliver remarkable capacity, ultrahigh energy density, and impressive durability, making it a promising strategy for designing advanced metal oxide electrode materials for high-performance aqueous zinc ion batteries.

Regulating proton distribution by ion exchange resin to achieve long lifespan aqueous Zn-MnO2 battery

Yan Wu et al.

Summary: This study reveals that the side product ZHS generated from pH fluctuation can react with Mn2+ to form lowly crystallized ZMO, which severely hinders the electrochemical performance of MnO2 cathode. The introduction of ion exchange resin effectively inhibits the formation of ZMO by regulating proton distribution in the electrolyte. The proposed battery system exhibits good cycling stability and capacity retention.
