Protective Effect of GIP against Monosodium Glutamate-Induced Ferroptosis in Mouse Hippocampal HT-22 Cells through the MAPK Signaling Pathway

Jiwon Ko et al.

Summary: This study assessed the effects of glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) on cells under oxidative stress induced by glutamate and identified the underlying molecular mechanisms. It was found that glutamate treatment led to excessive ROS generation and lipid peroxidation, causing cell damage. The neurotoxicity induced by excessive glutamate was identified as ferroptosis, and other factors involved in ferroptosis were also identified. GIP was shown to increase the activity of sub-signalling molecules, act as an antioxidant, and maintain a stable cell cycle. Additionally, GIP sustained cell viability by activating the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signalling pathway in cells exposed to ferroptosis.

Advances in the epidemiology of pancreatic cancer: Trends, risk factors, screening, and prognosis

Jie Cai et al.

Summary: Pancreatic cancer has poor prognosis and high mortality rates, leading to increased research on its epidemiology. Advances in the field include trends, risk factors, prediction models, screening methods, and prognosis. Risk factors are related to individual characteristics, lifestyle, environment, and disease status. Prediction models have been developed for populations with new-onset diabetes or family history of pancreatic cancer, but require further validation. Despite progress in screening, more studies are needed to identify high-risk populations and develop effective screening methods.

PPy@Fe3O4 Nanoparticles Inhibit Tumor Growth and Metastasis Through Chemodynamic and Photothermal Therapy in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

Danruo Fang et al.

Summary: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a leading cause of cancer death worldwide, and nanomedicine has emerged as a promising approach for its treatment. This study evaluated the effects of PPy@Fe3O4 nanoparticles on inhibiting NSCLC growth and metastasis through a combination of photothermal therapy (PTT) and chemodynamic therapy (CDT). The results showed that PPy@Fe3O4 NPs had significant inhibitory effects on NSCLC cell growth and metastasis in vitro, and decreased tumor volume and growth in vivo, while also exhibiting excellent MRI capabilities. In conclusion, PPy@Fe3O4 NPs demonstrated significant synergistic effects of PTT and CDT, as well as good biocompatibility and safety, making them a potential effective drug platform for NSCLC treatment.
