Hydrogen photo-production from glycerol on platinum, gold and silver-modified TiO2-USY62 catalysts

Francisco Lopez-Tenllado et al.

Summary: In this work, TiO2 supported on zeolite (USY62) photocatalysts were synthesized by sol-gel method and incorporated with Pt, Au, or Ag by impregnation or photodeposition. The photocatalytic activity of the composites was examined and it was found that catalysts prepared by photodeposition were more active. Moreover, zeolite-supported TiO2 showed smaller deactivation in H2 production compared to unsupported TiO2. A photocatalyst (USY-Ti-PPt) with up to four times higher activity than unsupported TiO2 under UV radiation was prepared.

The property-governed activity of silver-modified titania photocatalysts: The influence of titania matrix

Kenta Yoshiiri et al.

Summary: Commercial titania photocatalysts were modified with silver nanoparticles by the photodeposition method, and the resulting photocatalysts were characterized using various methods. The modification with silver significantly improved the photocatalytic activity under both UV and visible light irradiation. The type of titania sample, including crystalline phase, particle size, and electron traps' density, played a crucial role in the properties of the silver deposits and the photocatalytic activity.

Preparation and Photocatalytic Performance of TiO2 Nanowire-Based Self-Supported Hybrid Membranes

Mohammed Ahmed Shehab et al.

Summary: This study describes a promising solution for wastewater treatment using self-supported hybrid membranes. By characterizing and testing the prepared membranes, it was found that they exhibit high photocatalytic efficiency in the degradation of methylene blue under UV irradiation. The high efficiency can be attributed to the binary components in the membranes, which enhance both the adsorption and photocatalytic ability. The results suggest that multicomponent hybrid membranes could be promising candidates for future photocatalysis-based water treatment technologies.

Antimicrobial properties of pristine and Pt-modified titania P25 in rotating magnetic field conditions

Oliwia Paszkiewicz et al.

Summary: Effective and cheap water purification is a crucial task, and heterogeneous photocatalysis is a recommended method. This study explores the use of a rotating magnetic field (RMF) to activate photocatalysts for antimicrobial purposes. The results show that titania photocatalyst can work under RMF without photoirradiation, and modifying it with platinum enhances its photocatalytic and antimicrobial activities under RMF. This study provides evidence of the antimicrobial effect of titania and suggests that RMF can efficiently activate photocatalysts.

P25 and its components- Electronic properties and photocatalytic activities

Kunlei Wang et al.

Summary: The photocatalytic activities and electronic properties of the famous commercial photocatalyst P25, including the anatase and rutile phases, were investigated. It was found that the chemical dissolution method effectively isolated the active components, but resulted in impurification of the titania surface. Therefore, purification methods, such as thermal treatment and washing, were applied. The high photocatalytic efficiency of P25 could be explained by the intrinsic properties of anatase and rutile. The mobility of charges and lifetime of electrons in anatase were higher compared to rutile, suggesting the higher activity of anatase. Washing with NaOH and annealing also led to visible-light response of P25, indicating the potential involvement of sodium in initiating the visible-light response of titania.

Summary: The TiO2 nanocomposite photocatalyst P25/fluorinated graphene (P25/FG) shows excellent photocatalytic activity in degrading methyl orange. The enhancement in activity is attributed to the multiple modifications of P25 by FG, including fluorine-doped graphene, surface fluorine doping of P25, and dissociative fluorine ions generated from UV-assisted photocatalytic defluorination.

Summary: The study reports the electrostatic potential distribution at the Pt/TiO2 interface using electron holography, revealing a decrease in potential at TiO2 due to electron transfer from TiO2 to Pt. The decrease in potential is attributed to the difference in work functions between Pt and TiO2, highlighting the utility of electron holography in probing nanoscale interfaces.
