Observation of Photonic Topological Floquet Time Crystals

Bing Wang et al.

Summary: This study synthesizes a photonic material of topological Floquet time crystals and experimentally observes its indicative period-2T beating. A single-particle picture is explicitly reconstructed of discrete time-crystalline phase and is revealed using an appropriately-designed photonic Floquet simulator the rigid period-doubling as a signature of the breakage of the discrete time-translational symmetry. The photonic Floquet time crystal is derived from a newly defined single-particle topological phase that can be extensively accessed by many pertinent nonequilibrium and periodically-driven platforms.

Stability of Floquet Majorana Box Qubits

Anne Matthies et al.

Summary: Investigated two Josephson-coupled topological quantum wires with Coulomb interactions, inducing Floquet Majorana modes through oscillating gate voltage, enabling encoding of three qubits in a sector with fixed electron parity. Avoided system instability by gradually increasing oscillation frequency.

Digital quantum simulation of Floquet symmetry-protected topological phases

Xu Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper reports the observation of a non-equilibrium state of matter, Floquet symmetry-protected topological phases, implemented through digital quantum simulation with programmable superconducting qubits. The researchers observe robust long-lived temporal correlations and subharmonic temporal response for the edge spins.

qth-root non-Hermitian Floquet topological insulators

Longwen Zhou et al.

Summary: This study introduces a generic method for describing Floquet topological matter and applies it to obtain non-Hermitian Floquet topological insulators. The research demonstrates the presence of multiple edge and corner modes, non-Hermiticity induced fractional-quasienergy corner modes, and the coexistence of non-Hermitian skin effect with fractional-quasienergy edge states.

Square-root Floquet topological phases and time crystals

Raditya Weda Bomantara

Summary: In this study, a nontrivial method is proposed to design a square-root version of periodically driven phases, applicable in both noninteracting and interacting settings. It is found that the resulting systems exhibit richer physical phenomena compared to their original counterparts, while remaining robust against parameter imperfections.

Quantum repetition codes as building blocks of large-period discrete time crystals

Raditya Weda Bomantara

Summary: Discrete time crystals (DTCs) are nonequilibrium phases of matter with unique observable dynamics in response to periodic drive. While current experiments are limited to period-doubling and period-tripling observable dynamics, creating larger periodic DTCs remains a challenge, but can be achieved through quantum error correction.

Z4 parafermion ±π/2 modes in an interacting periodically driven superconducting chain

Raditya Weda Bomantara

Summary: Researchers theoretically report the emergence of Z(4) parafermion edge modes in a periodically driven spinful superconducting chain with a modest fermionic Hubbard interaction. These exotic quasiparticles can be analytically and exactly derived at special parameter values, and show strong numerical evidence of robustness against variations in parameter values and spatial disorder. This proposal offers a pathway towards realizing parafermions without the need for fractional quantum Hall systems or complicated interactions.
