Accelerated Fourier ptychographic diffraction tomography with sparse annular LED illuminations

Shun Zhou et al.

Summary: Fourier Ptychographic diffraction tomography (FPDT) is a label-free computational microscopy technique that retrieves high-resolution 3D tomograms by synthesizing low-resolution intensity images. Accelerated Fourier Ptychographic diffraction tomography (aFPDT) combines sparse annular LED illuminations and multiplexing to significantly reduce data and achieve computational acceleration. The method has been experimentally demonstrated on biological cells and has the potential to advance applications in biomedicine.

Inverse problem solver for multiple light scattering using modified Born series

Moosung Lee et al.

Summary: The inverse scattering problem is crucial in fundamental wave physics and imaging sciences, but accurately and efficiently inverting multiple scattering remains challenging. In this study, we propose an inverse problem solver based on the modified Born series, which allows for efficient and direct computation of inverse multiple scattering without any assumptions. We apply this method to optical diffraction tomography and demonstrate numerically and experimentally the 3D reconstruction of optically thick specimens with higher fidelity than conventional methods based on the weak scattering approximation.

Transport of intensity diffraction tomography with non-interferometric synthetic aperture for three-dimensional label-free microscopy

Jiaji Li et al.

Summary: We propose a new label-free 3D microscopy technique that can retrieve the 3D refractive index distribution of biological samples through 3D intensity measurements. This technique allows for incoherent 3D phase-contrast imaging without the need for interferometric detection. It provides strong defocus phase contrast and better optical sectioning capabilities, making it suitable for high-resolution tomography of thick biological samples. The technique was validated on various unlabeled fixed and live samples, demonstrating its potential for widespread biological and medical applications.

Intensity-based holographic imaging via space-domain Kramers-Kronig relations

YoonSeok Baek et al.

Summary: Holography is a powerful tool for recording wave information, and a recent advancement has introduced a holographic imaging method that does not require an interferometric setup or coherent light source, allowing the phase image of an object to be obtained directly from a single intensity measurement. This new method provides a convenient and efficient approach to holographic imaging without the need for iterative processes or strict constraints.

Isotropically resolved label-free tomographic imaging based on tomographic moulds for optical trapping

Moosung Lee et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates isotropic microtomography of free-floating samples by optically rotating a sample, using 3D structured light traps to measure side scattering information for achieving isotropic resolution. The method yields a resolution of 230 nm and captures structural details inaccessible using conventional tomographic microscopy.

Summary: Optical imaging has limitations in achieving high space-bandwidth product (SBP) due to challenges in correcting lens aberrations with larger apertures, leading to compromises in spatial resolution or field-of-view (FOV). In the past decade, various high-SBP imaging techniques have emerged, providing unprecedented resolution and FOV in bioimaging beyond the limit of conventional optics.
