A hybrid approach to building simplification with an evaluator from a backpropagation neural network

Min Yang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a hybrid approach using a neural network and four existing algorithms to determine the best simplified representation of a building. Experimental results show that the hybrid method can significantly reduce the percentage of unreasonably simplified buildings while combining the advantages of different algorithms.

Few-Shot Building Footprint Shape Classification with Relation Network

Yaohui Hu et al.

Summary: Buildings play a crucial role in cities, and accurately classifying their shapes is essential for urban structure cognition and planning. Deep learning methods that recognize building footprints in electronic maps have been proposed, but they heavily rely on labeled samples for optimal performance. In this paper, a relation network based method is proposed to recognize building footprint shapes with limited labeled samples. The method utilizes a metric function to predict the types of new samples based on their relations with prototype samples. The effectiveness of the method is validated on a building footprint dataset, achieving better classification accuracy compared to classical few-shot learning methods.

Towards Measuring Shape Similarity of Polygons Based on Multiscale Features and Grid Context Descriptors

Hongchao Fan et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the importance of measuring the shape similarity of polygons in spatial analysis applications, proposing a new method based on contour diffusion for polygon similarity measurement. By utilizing the features of context and texture of polygons, the method aims to adapt to cognitive purposes, with experimental results showing its superior accuracy compared to traditional methods.
