Post-Concussive Vestibular Dysfunction Is Related to Injury to the Inferior Vestibular Nerve

Anna Gard et al.

Summary: Symptoms of vestibular dysfunction are common after sports-related concussions and can be caused by impairment of the peripheral or central neural parts of the vestibular system. This study found that athletes with persisting symptoms after SRC had vestibular dysfunction, which was associated with injury to the inferior vestibular nerve.

Gait Impairment in Traumatic Brain Injury: A Systematic Review

Anthony Dever et al.

Summary: This article examines the objective assessment of gait impairments across the spectrum of traumatic brain injury (TBI). After searching databases for relevant research articles, 13 studies were included in the review. The findings suggest that gait impairments exist in patients with mild, moderate, and severe TBI, but methodological limitations were found in all studies. The authors recommend future studies to establish a standardized gait assessment procedure and consistent protocols to determine gait impairment in TBI.

Disruptive Dizziness Among Post-9/11 Veterans With Deployment-Related Traumatic Brain Injury

Alicia A. Swan et al.

Summary: The study examined disruption due to dizziness symptoms following deployment-related traumatic brain injury (TBI) and factors associated with receiving diagnoses for these symptoms. The findings showed that increased access to specialty care at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) was a significant predictor of dizziness and vestibular dysfunction diagnoses. However, Black non-Hispanic veterans and those with substance use disorder diagnoses or care were less likely to receive these diagnoses.

Portable eye-tracking as a reliable assessment of oculomotor, cognitive and reaction time function: Normative data for 18-45 year old

Aura Kullmann et al.

Summary: Eye movements measured by high precision eye-tracking technology are sensitive, objective, and non-invasive, making them useful for probing functional neural pathways and diagnosing and monitoring mild traumatic brain injury. Constructing a normative database allows for comparison of patient results and aids clinicians in identifying deficiencies for rapid triage and treatment monitoring.

Blast mild traumatic brain injury is associated with increased myopia and chronic convergence insufficiency

Francesca C. Fortenbaugh et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of blast-related mTBI on a range of visual function measures in Post-9/11 veterans. Results showed increased frequency of convergence insufficiency and myopia in the blast mTBI + group, which were associated with the number of blast mTBIs during military service.
