Serum levels of lipocalin-2 in patients with Parkinson's disease

Mi Xiong et al.

Summary: In this study, we recruited 40 PD patients and 35 HC as controls. Serum LCN2 levels were not significantly increased in PD patients compared with HC. There was no significant difference in LCN2 levels between patients at early and advanced stage of PD, as well as between cognitively impaired PD patients, PD patients with normal cognition, and HC. Moreover, LCN2 had no correlation with disease duration, UPDRS III score, and MoCA score.

Alpha-Synuclein Autoimmune Decline in Prodromal Multiple System Atrophy and Parkinson's Disease

Jonas Folke et al.

Summary: This study investigates the autoimmune aberrancies towards alpha-synuclein in prodromal phases of multiple-system trophy and Parkinson's Disease. The results indicate impaired reactivity towards alpha-synuclein occurs before disease onset, which may result in reduced clearance and aggregation of the protein.

Immune-related biomarkers for Parkinson's disease

Ilham Y. Abdi et al.

Summary: Despite being the second most common neurodegenerative disorder in the world, Parkinson's disease lacks established diagnostic markers or disease modifying therapies. Recent evidence suggests that the immune system may play a role in the pathogenesis of the disease, although the exact nature of this involvement is still debated.

Inflammation and immune dysfunction in Parkinson disease

Malu Gamez Tansey et al.

Summary: This review explores the role of an ageing immune system, host genetics, and exposure to environmental stressors in promoting the development of Parkinson's disease. It discusses the presence of neuroinflammation and alterations in immune cell populations as well as the potential contributions of viral or bacterial exposure, pesticides, and gut microbiota to disease pathogenesis.

The blood-brain barrier in systemic infection and inflammation

Ian Galea

Summary: The vascular blood-brain barrier serves as a regulated interface between the blood and brain, protecting neurons and signaling inflammation and infection to the brain. As systemic inflammation exacerbates, the barrier becomes more permeable, leading to increased lymphocyte trafficking and potential endothelial cell damage. Further research is needed to understand the varied response of the blood-brain barrier to systemic inflammation.

Serum Chemokine CXCL7 as a Potential Novel Biomarker for Obstructive Colorectal Cancer

Longhai Li et al.

Summary: The study suggests that CXCL7 may serve as a potential biomarker for both diagnosis and prognosis of OCRC patients, with higher concentrations in OCRC compared to non-OCRC patients. The sensitivity and specificity of CXCL7 in diagnosing OCRC were 86.54% and 81.87%, respectively. Additionally, high levels of CXCL7 in serum were independently associated with poor overall survival in OCRC patients.

Cytokine signaling convergence regulates the microglial state transition in Alzheimer's disease

Shun-Fat Lau et al.

Summary: Genetic analyses have shown the significant role of microglial dysfunction in Alzheimer's disease pathogenesis, with cytokine-induced microglial responses being a potential target for therapeutic development. However, the transition of microglial states induced by cytokines is complex and not fully understood, along with the mechanisms of how different functional states within this transition regulate AD pathology remaining unclear. This review summarizes the impact of various cytokine signaling pathways on microglial functions in AD and discusses the potential beneficial outcomes of modulating these pathways for therapeutic purposes.

Lipocalin 2 regulates iron homeostasis, neuroinflammation, and insulin resistance in the brains of patients with dementia: Evidence from the current literature

Daejin Lim et al.

Summary: Dementia accompanied by memory loss is a common neurodegenerative disease with increasing prevalence worldwide. Recent evidence suggests that lipocalin 2 (LCN2) plays a regulatory role in dementia and may be a promising therapeutic target to address the neuropathology of dementia.

Peripheral Immune Profile and Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio in Parkinson's Disease

Laura Munoz-Delgado et al.

Summary: Parkinson's disease patients exhibit altered peripheral immune profiles and higher neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) compared to healthy controls. However, there appears to be no significant association between NLR and clinical characteristics of Parkinson's disease. A meta-analysis also suggests higher NLR in Parkinson's disease patients.

Single-cell transcriptome and TCR profiling reveal activated and expanded T cell populations in Parkinson's disease

Pingping Wang et al.

Summary: The study reveals the presence of a large population of CD8(+) T cells progressing continuously and remarkably expanded CD4 CTLs in PD patients through TCR tracking. Additionally, potential TCR-antigen pairs were identified, providing evidence for peripheral T cells to participate in neuronal degeneration.
