Urine neopterin in childhood acute demyelinating diseases: Potential for differential diagnosis

Meltem Yildiz Kayaoglu et al.

Summary: This study found that urinary neopterin may be a potential marker for diagnosing pediatric multiple sclerosis (pMS). The novelty of this study is that pteridine pathway products in urine have not been studied in children with demyelinating disease before.

Serum Short-Chain Fatty Acids and Associations With Inflammation in Newly Diagnosed Patients With Multiple Sclerosis and Healthy Controls

Anna Olsson et al.

Summary: Multiple sclerosis is a chronic immune-mediated disease characterized by demyelination and neuroaxonal damage in the central nervous system. Research suggests that gut microbiota and their metabolites play a role in MS pathogenesis, particularly through short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). The levels and ratios of SCFAs in MS patients exhibit complex relationships with inflammation and immunomodulation, indicating a need for further studies to fully understand their impact in MS.

Exercise Diminishes Plasma Neurofilament Light Chain and Reroutes the Kynurenine Pathway in Multiple Sclerosis

Niklas Joisten et al.

Summary: This study found that high-intensity interval training has better training effects on patients with multiple sclerosis, affecting plasma neurofilament light chain and tryptophan degradation metabolites more significantly. Additionally, acute exercise may introduce confounding factors for measurement reliability.
