Combining nonlinear vibration absorbers and the Acoustic Black Hole for passive broadband flexural vibration mitigation

Haiqin Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates how adding different types of vibration absorbers to an Acoustic Black Hole termination can improve low frequency performance. The simulation results show that all proposed methods efficiently dampen flexural vibrations in a broadband manner. The tuning of different solutions affects their performance.

The suppression of nonlinear panel flutter response at elevated temperatures using a nonlinear energy sink

Jian Zhou et al.

Summary: The study shows that a nonlinear energy sink effectively reduces the aeroelastic response amplitude within a specific range. Changing the installation position, damping, mass ratio, and stiffness of the nonlinear energy sink will result in variations in its controlling effect on the suppression region and the dynamic behavior of the heated panel. An increase in temperature elevation leads to a decrease in the nonlinear energy sink suppression region, and when the temperature reaches a certain point, the suppression region disappears, and the nonlinear energy sink no longer has any effect on the panel flutter response.

Axially functionally graded design methods for beams and their superior characteristics in passive thermal buckling suppressions

Zhenyu Li et al.

Summary: This paper investigates two passive ways, i.e. the axially functionally graded (AFG) design and adding torsional springs, to suppress thermal buckling on thin-wall structures of high-speed spacecrafts. The AFG design considers both the thickness and material properties as functions of the axial spatial variable. When torsional springs are added to the main structure, the reduction in structural stiffness caused by temperature change can be offset to the maximum extent under appropriate stiffness coefficients.

Vibration Suppression for Beam-Like Repeating Lattice Structure Based on Equivalent Model by a Nonlinear Energy Sink

Gen Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates vibration reduction in lattice structures through the use of nonlinear energy sink attachments, achieving efficient attenuation of responses under transient excitations. Theoretical calculations are experimentally validated, showing a higher energy consumption efficiency with increasing mass of the attachment.

Steady-state response of a viscoelastic beam with asymmetric elastic supports coupled to a lever-type nonlinear energy sink

Jian Zang et al.

Summary: This work introduces a novel continuum vibratory absorber that integrates a lever-type nonlinear energy sink with asymmetric elastic boundary to attenuate vibration. The study focuses on the steady-state response of the system, highlighting the repetitive emergence of a closed detached response and the gradual decrease in amplitude after adding the resonance absorber. Additionally, the connection between the existence of the CDR and the primary response is further investigated.

Design criteria of bistable nonlinear energy sink in steady-state dynamics of beams and plates

Haiqin Li et al.

Summary: The study investigates a bistable nonlinear energy sink (BNES) for passive vibration control of beam and plate structures, discussing the frequency and amplitude response trends and outlining a simple design rule. Results show that compared to traditional cubic nonlinear energy sinks, BNES performs better in terms of both frequency and amplitude.

Summary: This study confirms through experiment and analysis that a hybrid structure utilizing active force control strategy has quasi-perfect absorption characteristics at low frequencies and is suitable for large-scale applications. By optimizing the control force, commendable large-scale absorptions can be achieved, outperforming conventional hybrid absorbers.
