Age-based preventive maintenance with multiple printing options

Francesco Lolli et al.

Summary: This study addresses the limitations of two current models, proposes a new maintenance policy considering different printing options with varying reliability and costs, and develops a decision support system to assist managers in choosing between AM and CM parts for preventive maintenance. AM-based preventive maintenance policies are favored when MTTF and backorder costs are low, and failure and maintenance costs are high.

A decision support system for configuring spare parts supply chains considering different manufacturing technologies

Alessandra Cantini et al.

Summary: This paper aims to assist managers and practitioners in determining how to design their spare parts supply chains and adopt the appropriate manufacturing technology through the development of a decision support system. The authors propose a user-friendly decision tree that allows comparison of total costs between different levels of centralization and between additive manufacturing and conventional manufacturing for spare parts.

Analysis of an as-built metal additively manufactured tool cavity insert performance and advantages for plastic injection moulding

Mandana Moshiri et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the possibilities and limitations of metal additive manufacturing in plastic injection molding tool applications, showing the potential to limit post-processes and the opportunities for insert production. The results demonstrated that the surface texture of the built cavity with MAM was comparable to that of electrical discharge machining, achieving a replication fidelity higher than 95% in plastic injection molded samples.

Enhancing Design for Additive Manufacturing Workflow: Optimization, Design and Simulation Tools

Nicolas Alberto Sbrugnera Sotomayor et al.

Summary: Additive manufacturing has revolutionized the production of complex lightweight designs in the past few decades, leading to a new era in the design process. It is crucial to consider multiple stages in the design for additive manufacturing (DfAM) process and implement guided-design frameworks to efficiently manage the process. This paper aims to minimize the number of design evaluations through optimization, design, and simulation tools, while focusing on implementing design optimization strategies to maximize additive manufacturing capabilities.
