Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Uracil-Modified Chitosan as a Promising Adsorbent for Efficient Removal of Congo Red Dye

Nouf F. Al-Harby et al.

Summary: A novel uracil-modified chitosan (UCs) adsorbent has been successfully synthesized and its structure and adsorption performance have been studied. The results show that the adsorption capacity of UCs for anionic Congo Red dye is related to factors such as solution pH, dye concentration, and temperature. The adsorption process follows pseudo-second order and Elovich models, and involves multiple steps. The isotherm analysis indicates that the adsorption of CR dye by UCs follows the Langmuir model, suggesting monolayer adsorption. Thermodynamic analysis shows that the adsorption process is endothermic and leads to increased randomness in the system.

Mechanism of Removal of Hexavalent Chromium from Aqueous Solution by Fe-Modified Biochar and Its Application

Run Pan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanism of Fe-modified biochar (FeBC) derived from rice straw biochar (BC) as an adsorbent for removing Cr(VI) from aqueous solution. The results showed that the removal percentage of Cr(VI) increased with the FeBC dose, and increasing solution pH slightly decreased Cr(VI) adsorption. Coexisting ions such as Ca2+, Na+, and Cl- inhibited the removal of Cr(VI). Analytical techniques revealed that FeBC had more active sites with loaded iron oxides compared to BC, and the surface functional groups changed. The removal of Cr(VI) by FeBC was mainly attributed to electrostatic adsorption and the redox reaction of Cr and Fe. FeBC exhibited good removal performance on actual industrial wastewater.
