Three-Dimensional Vortex Gyration Dynamics Unraveled by Time-Resolved Soft X-ray Laminography with Freely Selectable Excitation Frequencies

Simone Finizio et al.

Summary: In this paper, an experimental setup based on soft X-ray magnetic laminography is presented, which allows the imaging of magneto-dynamical processes in all three spatial dimensions and in time at arbitrary frequencies. Two resonant dynamical modes of a CoFeB microstructure, namely the fundamental vortex gyration mode and a magnetic field-induced domain wall excitation mode, are investigated using this setup. The imaging results show that the gyration dynamics of the vortex mode varies across the thickness of the core, coexisting with a breathing mode, while the domain walls in the microstructure exhibit uniform displacement across the thickness. This work highlights the possibility of investigating resonant magneto-dynamical processes using soft X-ray time-resolved laminography.

Switchable magnetic frustration in buckyball nanoarchitectures

Rajgowrav Cheenikundil et al.

Summary: Recent advancements in nanofabrication have resulted in a growing interest in three-dimensional magnetic nanostructures, particularly in the study of interconnected magnetic nanowire arrays with tunable artificial spin-ice properties. Research on magnetic buckyball nanostructures, which serve as prototypes for studying the transition from two- to three-dimensional spin-ice lattices, has revealed limited understanding of their micromagnetic properties. Micromagnetic simulations have shown the magnetization structures and hysteresis properties of sub-micron-sized magnetic buckyballs, highlighting their potential advantages over planar geometries.
