The 20-nm Skyrmion Generated at Room Temperature by Spin-Orbit Torques

Jiahao Liu et al.

Summary: The discovery of magnetic skyrmions provides a promising pathway for developing functional spintronic memory and logic devices. Small skyrmions with diameters approaching 20 nm can be generated by current-induced spin-orbit torques. This finding is important for understanding the formation dynamics of nanoscale spin textures and promoting nanoscale skyrmionic memories and logic devices.

Experimental demonstration of skyrmionic magnetic tunnel junction at room temperature

Sai Li et al.

Summary: This study reports the direct observation of nanoscale skyrmions in CoFeB/MgO-based magnetic tunnel junction devices at room temperature and achieves their electrical detection. The formation of skyrmions is stabilized by the cooperation of interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, and dipolar stray field. The skyrmionic magnetic tunnel junction exhibits stable nonlinear multilevel resistance, providing important perspectives for high-density memory and neuromorphic computing in spintronics.

The promise of spintronics for unconventional computing

Giovanni Finocchio et al.

Summary: Novel computational paradigms, such as spintronics, offer efficient solutions for the time and energy limitations faced by modern computers by providing low-power requirements, strong nonlinearity, and compatibility with CMOS logic manufacturing processes. Spintronic devices also have high endurance and speed, making them essential for rewriting and reconfiguring frequently over the lifetime of a circuit. This perspective discusses how spintronics can aid in the development of efficient devices and impact the emergence of unconventional computing paradigms.

Superposition of Emergent Monopole and Antimonopole in CoTb Thin Films

Yao Guang et al.

Summary: A three-dimensional singular point consisting of two oppositely aligned emergent monopoles is identified in continuous CoTb thin films, providing a platform for studying emergent electromagnetism. The observed spin twist seen in Lorentz transmission electron microscopy reveals the cross section of the superimposed three-dimensional structure. This new type of topological defect can be regarded as a superposition of an emergent magnetic monopole and an antimonopole.

Thermoelectric Signature of Individual Skyrmions

Alexander Fernandez Scarioni et al.

Summary: Researchers experimentally characterized the thermoelectrical signature of individual skyrmions in chiral Pt/Co/Ru multilayers and discussed possible topological contributions. This method allows for noninvasive detection and counting of skyrmions and enables studies of topological thermoelectric effects on the nanoscale.
