Limitations due to residual interference in a fiber-based optical frequency reference at 1.55 μm

Karim Manamanni et al.

Summary: In this study, the stability limits specific to optical frequency standards using fiber optic architecture and semiconductor lasers were experimentally investigated. It was found that residual reflections induced by optical index inhomogeneities significantly limit the performance, and interference fringes impose limitations on the frequency stability of the reference.

Comb coherence-transfer and cavity ring-down saturation spectroscopy around 1.65 μm: kHz-accurate frequencies of transitions in the 2ν3 band of 12CH4

Ondrej Votava et al.

Summary: Comb Coherence Transfer (CCT) is used to transfer the optical phase of a frequency comb to a diode laser beam, allowing for amplification and frequency tuning. This study demonstrates SI-traceable frequency calibration and comb tooth narrowing, and applies CCT to cavity ring-down spectroscopy for accurate transition frequency measurements.

Coherent phase transfer for real-world twin-field quantum key distribution

Cecilia Clivati et al.

Summary: In this study, the authors use technologies from the optical clocks community to demonstrate a setup for twin-field quantum key distribution (QKD) that extends the coherence times by three orders of magnitude, overcoming the main challenge towards real-world implementation. They develop a solution using interferometry techniques to enable simultaneous key streaming and channel length control, and successfully demonstrate it on a 206 km field-deployed fiber. This technique represents an effective solution for real-world quantum communications.

Summary: We report on the realization of a new compact strontium optical clock using a 2-D magneto-optical-trap (2D-MOT) as cold atomic source and a multi-wavelength cavity as the frequency stabilization system. The clock operation is performed without atomic signal normalization, enabling low-noise operation. Stability tests and preliminary accuracy budget demonstrate the feasibility of the system.

Absolute frequency of 87Sr at 1.8 x 10-16 uncertainty by reference to remote primary frequency standards

Nils Nemitz et al.

Summary: The optical lattice clock NICT-Sr1 calibrates the international timescale TAI and determines the absolute frequency of the Sr-87 clock transition to be 429 228 004 229 873.082 Hz, with a high level of precision approaching the systematic limits of the best realization of the SI second. This result is consistent with other recent measurements and is further supported by loop closure over the absolute frequencies of Sr-87, Yb-171, and direct optical measurements of their ratio.

Etienne Cantin et al.

Summary: The introduction of multi-branch repeater laser stations allows the dissemination of an ultra-stable signal to multiple users and evaluation of the stability and accuracy of multiple links simultaneously. A 4800 km optical fiber network with three MLSs and 13 RLSs showed successful multi-user optical frequency dissemination with uncertainties below 1.1 x 10(-19). SI-traceable frequency dissemination at 1572.06 nm in a stabilized fiber network with ring topology

Dominik Husmann et al.

Summary: In this study, the dissemination of an SI-traceable ultrastable optical frequency in the L-band over a fiber network with ring topology was demonstrated, showing link instability and accuracy measurements. The application of the disseminated frequency was shown by establishing the SI-traceability of a laser in a remote laboratory, and it was confirmed that the metrological frequency does not interfere with data traffic in telecommunication channels. The unconventional spectral choice in the telecommunication L-band combined with established frequency-stabilization techniques provides a novel, cost-effective solution for ultrastable frequency comparison and dissemination, potentially contributing to the foundation of a world-wide metrological network.
