Inactivating transcription factor OsWRKY5 enhances drought tolerance through abscisic acid signaling pathways

Chaemyeong Lim et al.

Summary: In this study, the negative regulation of drought tolerance by the rice WRKY transcription factor OsWRKY5 was demonstrated. OsWRKY5 was mainly expressed in developing leaves at the seedling and heading stages, and its expression was reduced under drought stress and treatment with NaCl, mannitol, and ABA. Loss-of-function alleles of OsWRKY5 showed enhanced drought tolerance, while overexpression led to higher susceptibility. OsWRKY5 repression increased sensitivity to ABA and downregulated genes downstream of OsMYB2 in the ABA signaling pathways, indicating its role in negative regulation of ABA-induced drought stress tolerance.

CaWRKY30 Positively Regulates Pepper Immunity by Targeting CaWRKY40 against Ralstonia solanacearum Inoculation through Modulating Defense-Related Genes

Ansar Hussain et al.

Summary: The study revealed that CaWRKY30 plays a crucial role in pepper's immunity against Ralstonia solanacearum infection, being positively regulated by phytohormones like ET, ABA, and SA. The results also suggest a synergistic signaling mechanism between CaWRKY30 and other WRKY TFs, such as CaWRKY6, CaWRKY22, CaWRKY27, and CaWRKY40, in regulating pepper's defense response.

WRKY Transcription Factors in Nicotiana tabacum Modulate Plant Immunity against Whitefly via Interacting with MAPK Cascade Pathways

Dan-Mei Yao et al.

Summary: WRKY transcription factors play important roles in many plant metabolic processes, including defense against pests like whiteflies. This study demonstrates that WRKYs contribute to plant defense by interacting with MAPK cascade pathways. Understanding these interactions provides new insights into plant defenses against insect infestation.

A salicylic acid inducible mulberry WRKY transcription factor, MiWRKY53 is involved in plant defence response

Nisha Negi et al.

Summary: MiWRKY53 is expressed in response to various stresses and hormones. It belongs to group III of the WKRY gene family, localized in the nucleus, and lacks transcriptional activation activity in yeast. Overexpression of MiWRKY53 in Arabidopsis plants shows preferential response to Salicylic acid (SA), indicating its function as a regulator of plant defence response through SA-mediated mechanisms.
