Hyperbolic whispering-gallery phonon polaritons in boron nitride nanotubes

Xiangdong Guo et al.

Summary: Light confinement in nanostructures allows for enhanced light-matter interaction, leading to a wide range of applications. Hexagonal BN nanotubes act as smooth nanocavities that can sustain whispering-gallery modes, with low scattering losses. These nanotubes could potentially enable compact photonic devices with ultrastrong light-matter interactions.

Electron Vortex Beam Generation via Chiral Light-Induced Inelastic Ponderomotive Scattering

Martin Kozak

Summary: We propose an all-optical technique for generating pulsed electron vortex beams in ultrafast electron microscopy. The technique is based on inelastic scattering of electrons at the ponderomotive potential of an optical traveling wave formed by two laser pulses at different frequencies. By transferring orbital angular momentum from a vortex beam optical pulse to the electron wave function, an electron vortex state can be created separated from the initial state in the energy domain.

Shaping quantum photonic states using free electrons

A. Ben Hayun et al.

Summary: The paper proposes generating quantum light using free-electron interactions, which can shape the quantum states of light through a selective choice of input light and electron states. By utilizing electron energy combs to implement photon displacement operations, such as creating displaced-Fock and displaced-squeezed states, complete control over the quantum state of generated light may be achieved in the future.

Modulation of Cathodoluminescence Emission by Interference with External Light

Valerio Di Giulio et al.

Summary: Interference between light and free electrons can modulate the spectral distribution of cathodoluminescence emission, depending strongly on the electron wave function. By illuminating with a spectrally modulated dimmed laser phase-locked with the electron density profile, cathodoluminescence from a temporally focused electron can be canceled. This interference enables manipulation of ultrafast materials response by combining spectral and temporal selectivity of light with atomic resolution of electron beams.

Optical coherence transfer mediated by free electrons

Ofer Kfir et al.

Summary: This theoretical study investigates the quantum-coherence properties of cathodoluminescence emission generated by a temporally modulated electron beam, revealing the presence of phase correlations between the emitted CL field and the electron-modulating laser. The coherence of the CL field extends to harmonics of the laser frequency, suggesting the potential for ultra-precise manipulation and probing of nanoscale quantum systems through the optical coherence transferred by electron beams focused to below 1 A.

Quantum Entanglement and Modulation Enhancement of Free-Electron-Bound-Electron Interaction

Zhexin Zhao et al.

Summary: The research shows that in the presence of resonant modulation of the free-electron wave function, the interaction between the electron and a two-level system can be greatly enhanced, allowing for the detection of atomic coherence and the entanglement of distantly separated two-level atoms. The modulation-induced enhancement effects can also be observed using a dilute beam of modulated electrons.
