An All-Dielectric Polaritonic Metasurface with a Giant Nonlinear Optical Response

Raktim Sarma et al.

Summary: This study focuses on optimizing the electromagnetic modes in meta-atoms and engineering material nonlinearities at the nanoscale to enhance the efficiency of second-harmonic generation using all-dielectric metasurfaces. By simultaneously optimizing heterostructures and meta-atoms, an all-dielectric polaritonic metasurface with high second-harmonic generation power conversion factor and power conversion efficiencies is experimentally realized. These results open up a new direction for designing efficient nonlinear all-dielectric metasurfaces for classical and quantum light sources.

Second-Harmonic Enhancement from a Nonlinear Plasmonic Metasurface Coupled to an Optical Waveguide

Tsafrir Abir et al.

Summary: This study experimentally demonstrates that strong collective resonances can be generated by coupling a metasurface to an optical waveguide, and explores the effect of this waveguide-assisted collective interaction on second-harmonic generation. The experimental results show an 8-fold enhancement for the transmitted second harmonic compared to incoherent collective scattering, and simulations predict a 100-fold enhancement for the second harmonic confined inside the waveguide.

Third harmonic generation from the gold/amorphous silicon hybrid metasurface

Yang Li et al.

Summary: A metal-silicon hybrid metasurface is proposed to generate strong third harmonic signals from an amorphous silicon film. By integrating the film into a gold plasmonic nanocavity and controlling the periods of the gold meta-atoms, the efficiency of the third harmonic generation process is greatly enhanced and provides new routes for developing silicon photonic devices with high optical nonlinearity.

Influence of Plasmon Resonances and Symmetry Effects on Second Harmonic Generation in WS2-Plasmonic Hybrid Metasurfaces

Florian Spreyer et al.

Summary: The study investigates how plasmonic dipole resonances impact the process of SHG in plasmonic-TMD hybrid metasurfaces, revealing that the polarization dependency is influenced by the lattice structure of plasmonic nanoantenna arrays and the relative orientation between 1L-WS2 and individual plasmonic nanoantennas. Moreover, hybrid metasurfaces exhibit SHG in polarization states where SHG is typically forbidden, achieving an enhancement of the SHG signal by more than 40 times.

Steering and Encoding the Polarization of the Second Harmonic in the Visible with a Monolithic LiNbO3 Metasurface

Luca Carletti et al.

Summary: Nonlinear metasurfaces play a key role in meta-optics, allowing for scaling down nonlinear optics to sub-micrometer thicknesses. By utilizing transparent materials with high refractive index like LiNbO3, nonlinear meta-optics in the visible range can be achieved, although nanofabrication challenges still exist.
