Self-powered topological insulator Bi2Te3/Ge heterojunction photodetector driven by long-lived excitons transfer

Qin Yin et al.

Summary: Due to the wide spectral absorption and ultrafast electron dynamical response, topological insulator (TI) based heterostructures have potential applications in next-generation photonic and optoelectronic devices. In this study, high-quality Bi2Te3/Ge heterojunction with clear interface was successfully prepared using physical vapor deposition. A significant photoluminescence quenching behavior was observed, and a self-powered heterostructure photodetector with excellent performance was fabricated. This research provides fundamental understanding of the spontaneous interfacial exciton transfer in TI-based heterostructures and contributes to the development of novel optoelectronic applications in the future.

Terahertz probe of nonequilibrium carrier dynamics and ultrafast photocurrents in the topological insulator Sb2Te3

Shunyi Ruan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the non-equilibrium carrier dynamics in a 3D topological insulator Sb2Te3 using time-resolved optical pump-THz probe spectroscopy. The results show ultrafast relaxation and release of carriers in the electron system through intra-band and inter-band scattering. Different ultrafast photocurrents are identified in Sb2Te3, with linear photogalvanic effect, circular photogalvanic effect, and thermoelectric effect driving the dynamics. The findings suggest the potential for all-optical modulation of THz emission without external bias fields, offering implications for high-speed THz optoelectronic and opto-spintronic devices based on topological insulators.

CdS@CdSe Core/Shell Quantum Dots for Highly Improved Self-Powered Photodetection Performance

You Zi et al.

Summary: Uniform and well-defined cadmium sulfide@cadmium selenide core/shell quantum dots (CdS@CdSe QDs) were successfully synthesized for the first time using a solvothermal method and chemical bath growth. The as-synthesized CdS@CdSe QDs exhibit superior self-powered photoresponse behavior, excellent stability, and significantly improved current densities and photoresponsivity compared to individual CdS QDs or CdSe QDs. These properties are mainly attributed to the built-in electric field, suggesting great potential in the fields of renewable energy and carbon neutrality target achievement.

Exfoliated Bi2Te3 nanoparticle suspensions and films: morphological and nonlinear optical characterization

Rashid A. Ganeev et al.

Summary: Bismuth telluride nanoparticles exhibit nonlinear optical properties including saturable absorption and positive nonlinear refraction. Stronger excitation leads to reverse saturable absorption dominating over other nonlinear optical processes. In thin films containing these nanoparticles, significant growth of the nonlinear optical parameters is achieved compared to colloidal Bi2Te3 NPs.
