Synthesis of High Performance Thiophene-Aromatic Polyesters from Bio-Sourced Organic Acids and Polysaccharide-Derived Diol: Characterization and Degradability Studies

Lesly Dasilva Wandji Djouonkep et al.

Summary: This work investigates the feasibility of replacing petroleum-based poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) with fully bio-based copolyesters. By varying the ratio of diester monomers in the reaction, the properties of the copolyesters can be tailored. The resulting copolyesters exhibit good thermal and mechanical properties, as well as enhanced susceptibility to hydrolysis and appreciable biodegradability.

Aminoalcohol-functionalization of Alkali Palm Oil Fiber and Application as Electrochemical Sensor for 2-nitrophenol Determination

Marcel Cedric Deussi Ngaha et al.

Summary: In this study, a simple and fast electrochemical method based on aminoalcohol-functionalized palm oil fiber modified carbon paste electrode was developed for the electroanalysis of 2-nitrophenol. The modified electrode showed a more sensitive response towards the reduction of 2-nitrophenol and allowed for the detection of low concentrations. The sensor was selective and successfully applied to the detection of 2-nitrophenol in real water samples.

Pure Chitosan Biomedical Textile Fibers from Mixtures of Low- and High-Molecular Weight Bidisperse Polymer Solutions: Processing and Understanding of Microstructure-Mechanical Properties' Relationship

Flor Estefany Bentley et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of low molar mass chitosan on chitosan fibers with bimodal distributions of molar masses. The results showed that adding low molar mass chitosan slightly increased the crystallinity of chitosan films, but decreased the crystallinity and altered the mechanical properties of stretched fibers.

Hydroxyapatite/L-Lysine Composite Coating as Glassy Carbon Electrode Modifier for the Analysis and Detection of Nile Blue A

Jimmy Julio Kouanang Ngouoko et al.

Summary: An amperometric sensor was developed by depositing a film coating of hydroxyapatite/L-lysine composite material on a glassy carbon electrode. The sensor showed improved sensitivity towards the detection of Nile blue A (NBA) in solution. Under optimal conditions, the sensor exhibited good reproducibility, selectivity, and a low detection limit for NBA.

Amino-Functionalized Laponite Clay Material as a Sensor Modifier for the Electrochemical Detection of Quercetin

Delmas Vidal Tabe Ebunang et al.

Summary: In this work, an electrode modified with an amino-functionalized clay mineral was used for the electrochemical analysis and quantification of quercetin. The modification of the electrode was confirmed to be effective, and the experimental conditions were optimized for linear detection of quercetin concentration. The selectivity of the sensor in the presence of interfering species was also evaluated.

A new sensor based on an amino-montmorillonite-modified inkjet-printed graphene electrode for the voltammetric determination of gentisic acid

Liliane M. Dongmo et al.

Summary: An amperometric sensor based on inkjet-printed graphene electrode modified with amine-functionalized montmorillonite has been developed for electroanalysis and quantification of gentisic acid. The sensor demonstrated charge selectivity for electrochemical oxidation of GA in acidic medium, showing high sensitivity and a wide linear range for GA detection. The developed method using a cheap clay material could be applied for determination of various phenolic acids.

Functional Bionanocomposite Fibers of Chitosan Filled with Cellulose Nanofibers Obtained by Gel Spinning

Sofia Marquez-Bravo et al.

Summary: High mechanical performance spun bionanocomposite fibers of chitosan (CHI) filled with cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) were achieved through gel spinning, leading to improved crystallinity and mechanical properties. Increasing the CNF content up to 0.4 wt% in the CHI solution significantly enhanced Young's modulus and tensile strength of the fibers, while further increases in CNF content slightly impacted mechanical parameters due to potential disruption of the CHI matrix hydrogel network. Overall, the addition of 0.4 wt% CNFs into 4 wt% CHI formulations showed optimal compatibility and interface, resulting in bionanocomposite fibers with outstanding mechanical properties.

Development of Bioinspired Functional Chitosan/Cellulose Nanofiber 3D Hydrogel Constructs by 3D Printing for Application in the Engineering of Mechanically Demanding Tissues

Arnaud Kamdem Tamo et al.

Summary: In this study, 3D printed hydrogel constructs were developed using chitosan and cellulose nanofibers without chemical modification or crosslinking, leading to environmentally friendly high mechanical performance composites. Chitosan promoted cell growth with balanced hydrophilic properties, while nanofibers provided mechanical reinforcement to the hydrogel. The optimized composition and processing parameters resulted in good 3D printability, resolution, and quality of constructs, expanding the library of biopolymer compositions for mechanically performant hydrogel constructs.

Controlled Polyelectrolyte Association of Chitosan and Carboxylated Nano-Fibrillated Cellulose by Desalting

Sarah Amine et al.

Summary: In this study, chitosan hydrogels were prepared using the desalting method, with cellulose nanofibrils serving as reinforcement. Through multiple-step dialysis desalting, polyelectrolyte complexation between chitosan and cellulose nanofibrils was achieved. The resulting hydrogels showed enhanced mechanical properties and potential for use as precursors for high-strength solid forms.
