Effects of ultrasound-assisted low-concentration chlorine washing on ready-to-eat winter jujube (Zizyphus jujuba Mill. cv. Dongzao): Cross-contamination prevention, decontamination efficacy, and fruit quality

Jiayi Wang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of ultrasound and chlorine, two low-cost disinfection methods, in disinfecting winter jujube. The results showed that ultrasound alone or chlorine alone were not effective in reducing cross-contamination, but the combination of both methods completely eliminated cross-contamination. Additionally, the use of ultrasound, chlorine, and their combination did not result in any additional quality loss compared to the control.

Sulfadiazine's photodegradation using a novel magnetic and reusable carbon based photocatalyst: Photocatalytic efficiency and toxic impacts to marine bivalves

Vitoria L. Louros et al.

Summary: In this study, waste-based biochar functionalized with titanium dioxide and magnetized using an ex-situ approach was used for the photocatalytic degradation of the antibiotic sulfadiazine in the aquaculture industry. The application of the synthetic photosensitizer (SPS) enhanced the degradation efficiency, and the magnetization procedure allowed for good reusability of the SPS. The effects of the treated water on marine bivalves were evaluated, and the results showed that the SPS treatment effectively decreased the biochemical impacts on the mussels.
