In situ electrogeneration and activation of H2O2 by atomic Fe catalysts for the efficient removal of chloramphenicol

Xiaozhe Song et al.

Summary: The study introduces a new strategy for electron-Fenton-like process with in situ H2O2 production using bifunctional catalysts with Fe atoms introduced into defect-enriched graphene sheets (Fe/NDG). The Fe/N-DG catalysts exhibit superior mass activity and H2O2 selectivity, even under extreme pH conditions, showing promising potential for antibiotic wastewater treatment. The Fe1/N-DG catalyst with a predominant Fe-N structure demonstrates the best catalytic performance for chloramphenicol removal, providing new insights into atomic Fe-based catalysts for environmental applications.

Chen Chen et al.

Summary: The study addresses the challenge of developing catalysts with high activity and selectivity in the EF system, as well as the controllable output power of a triboelectric nanogenerator for collecting mechanical energy. By using an adsorption-pyrolysis-doping strategy, the researchers were able to tailor the carbon catalyst to achieve efficient electrosynthesis. They also developed a 3D printed revolving roller-compacted triboelectric nanogenerator for self-powering the EF system, resulting in high decolorization efficiency of resistant mixed basic dyes in industrial wastewater.

Highly efficient metal-free electro-Fenton degradation of organic contaminants on a bifunctional catalyst

Xin Qin et al.

Summary: In this study, a metal-free e-Fenton system using O-doped carbon nanotubes (OCNTs) as the bifunctional metal-free cathode was designed for the degradation of organic pollutants. The system demonstrated excellent performance under neutral conditions, with a phenol degradation kinetic constant of 0.071 min-1 and a TOC removal rate of 76.6% within 300 min. This in-situ metal-free e-Fenton system shows promise as a strategy for actual wastewater treatment, with a specific energy consumption lower than reported heterogeneous electro-Fenton systems.
