Advanced materials and technologies for supercapacitors used in energy conversion and storage: a review

M. I. A. Abdel Maksoud et al.

Summary: Supercapacitors are increasingly utilized in sustainable nanotechnologies for energy conversion and storage. Various materials, such as spinel ferrites, perovskite oxides, transition metals sulfides, carbon materials, and conducting polymers, are compared for supercapacitor fabrication. Transition metal sulfides, like ZnCo2S4, exhibit higher specific capacitance compared to transition metal oxides, due to low charge-transfer resistance and high ion diffusion rate. Composites of magnetic oxides or transition metal sulfides with conducting polymers or carbon materials show the highest capacitance activity and cyclic stability, attributed to oxygen and sulfur active sites that facilitate electrolyte penetration and create new active sites.
