Surface functionalization of few-layer graphene on β-SiC(001) by Neutral Red dye

Dimitrii V. Potorochin et al.

Summary: This study investigates the functionalization of few-layer graphene on beta-SiC(001) with phenazine dye Neutral Red using diazonium chemistry. Various techniques and theoretical calculations were employed to analyze the composite structure and properties. The experimental results reveal the formation of a composite structure with a large energy gap, where the molecules can be oriented both parallel and perpendicular to the graphene surface. The study also shows the intact bottom layers of few-layer graphene, resulting in a low-dimensional metal/semiconductor heterostructure.

Recent Progress on the Scanning Tunneling Microscopy and Spectroscopy Study of Semiconductor Heterojunctions

Wenbing Peng et al.

Summary: Understanding the band alignment, interface states, interface coupling, and carrier transport properties of semiconductor heterojunctions (SHs) is crucial for designing and fabricating semiconductor structures and devices. STM and STS have played significant roles in studying the properties of SHs, such as spatial structures and electronic band structures, to propose mechanisms for carrier transport.

Silicon - single molecule - silicon circuits

Jeffrey R. Reimers et al.

Summary: In 2020, silicon-molecule-silicon junctions were found to be less conductive on average compared to traditional gold electrode junctions, but in some cases more conductive, with better extendability and mechanical stability. Calculations showed that these silicon-molecule-silicon junctions have extraordinary single-molecule conductivity due to the presence of unterminated silicon surface dangling bonds. The technology, explored through calculations and experiments, holds potential for numerous applications in electronics, nanotechnology, photonics, and sensing.

How did correlative atomic force microscopy and super-resolution microscopy evolve in the quest for unravelling enigmas in biology?

Adelaide Miranda et al.

Summary: The invention of the Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) in 1986 allowed for the study of cellular specimens under nearly physiological conditions with nanometric resolution, and the application of AFM to biological research expanded with improvements in imaging modes. Advances in super-resolution fluorescence microscopy techniques have brought the resolution of light microscopy to a level comparable to that of AFM, leading to the combination of AFM with fluorescence based super-resolution microscopy modalities.
