A theoretical and experimental investigation on the SHS synthesis of (HfTiCN)-TiB2 high-entropy composite

N. S. Evseev et al.

Summary: This work demonstrates the feasibility of obtaining a high-entropy ceramic (HfTiCN)-TiB2 composite material through coupled self-propagating high-temperature synthesis. A probable mechanism for the formation of the composite material during the synthesis process is proposed.

Effect of Mechanical Activation of Al-Ti-B Powder Mixture on Phase Composition and Structure of Al-TiB2 Composite Materials Obtained by Self-Propagating High-Temperature Synthesis (SHS)

Alexey Matveev et al.

Summary: In this study, Al-TiB2 composite materials were successfully obtained using self-propagating high-temperature synthesis and preliminary mechanical activation. The study showed that the duration of mechanical activation of the initial powder mixture can affect the structure and particle size of the synthesis products.

Phase Composition, Structure and Properties of the Spark Plasma Sintered Ceramics Obtained from the Al12Mg17-B-Si Powder Mixtures

Pavel Nikitin et al.

Summary: Composite materials were obtained by spark plasma sintering of an Al12Mg17-B-Si powder mixture. Various compounds based on B-12 icosahedrons were formed during the sintering process. The hardness, friction coefficient, and wear rate of the obtained composites can be adjusted by changing the content of Al12Mg17-B powder in the initial mixture.

Decomposition mechanism of AlMgB14 during the spark plasma sintering

P. Yu Nikitin et al.

Summary: In this work, AlMgB14-based materials were successfully obtained by spark plasma sintering from an (Al-Mg)-B powder mixture, and their microstructure and properties were investigated. Samples sintered at high temperatures exhibited high hardness, and a mechanism for the decomposition of AlMgB14 during local overheating was proposed.

On the Structure and Properties of AlMgB14-TiB2 Composites Obtained from SHS Powders by Spark Plasma Sintering

Pavel Nikitin et al.

Summary: The AlMgB14-TiB2 composite materials were synthesized by SHS and spark plasma sintering. The formation of AlMgB14 phase during SHS is related to the mass ratio of donor (Ti + 2B) to acceptor (Al12Mg17-B), with 3:7 and 4:6 being the optimal ratios. The specimen sintered at 1470 degrees C with a 5:5 mass ratio has a uniform structure and achieves an average hardness of 30.1 GPa.

The use of plastic waste as carbon raw materials to obtain TiC-based powders

A. E. Matveev et al.

Summary: Plastic pollution is a major environmental issue, and efforts are being made to recycle plastic waste into high-purity titanium carbide. The mechanism involves the decomposition of polyethylene terephthalate to form titanium carbide, releasing titanium oxycarbide and carbon dioxide.
