Sintering behavior of Cr2AlC MAX phase synthesized by Spark plasma sintering

Fatemeh Zakeri-Shahroudi et al.

Summary: The study investigated the sintering and mechanical properties of Cr2AlC MAX phase synthesized by Spark plasma sintering at different temperatures. XRD patterns revealed impurities present during synthesis, while FESEM images showed successful formation of MAX phases with increased sintering temperature. Density increased and then decreased with temperature, while Vickers hardness decreased for prepared samples.

Annealing effects on the structure and hardness of helium-irradiated Cr2AlC thin films

Chunjie Wang et al.

Summary: Thermal annealing around 600 degrees Celsius significantly recovers structural damage in Cr2AlC caused by irradiation. After annealing to 750 degrees Celsius, the hardness of irradiated films almost completely recovers, mainly due to defect recombination and reformation of damaged chemical bonds. Substantial helium release at this annealing temperature is closely related to damage recovery from helium irradiation.

Ultrafast laser soliton mode-locked at 1.5 μm region based on Cr2AlC MAX phase as a saturable absorber

Mustafa M. Najm et al.

Summary: In this experiment, a passively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser was successfully realized using chromium aluminum carbide (Cr2AlC) MAX phase as a saturable absorber (SA). The laser operated at 1559 nm with different cavity lengths, resulting in variations in pulse width, pulse energy, output power, and repetition rate. This is the first demonstration of utilizing Cr2AlC MAX phase SA for pulse laser generation in the 1.5-μm region.

In-situ growth of MAX phase coatings on carbonised wood and their terahertz shielding properties

Jiaxuan Huang et al.

Summary: The study fabricated three MAX@CW composites with porous structures using carbonised wood as a template and the molten salt method, leading to improved EMI shielding effectiveness. Among the composites, V2AlC@CW showed the highest average EMI SE of 55 dB in the frequency range of 0.6-1.6 THz.
