Smart Magnetic Nanocarriers for Multi-Stimuli On-Demand Drug Delivery

Parisa Eslami et al.

Summary: In this study, drug-loaded smart magnetic nanocarriers were successfully created using superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles encapsulated in a dual pH- and temperature-responsive copolymer. These nanocarriers exhibited reversible hydration/dehydration transition at acidic conditions and/or temperatures above physiological body temperature, which could be triggered by magnetic hyperthermia. The effectiveness of the system was demonstrated by high encapsulation efficiency of the drug at neutral pH and the release of the drug under hyperthermia conditions. This study suggests that this multi-stimuli-sensitive nanoplatform has great potential for remote-controlled drug release combined with magnetic hyperthermia for cancer treatment.

Silica-Based Stimuli-Responsive Systems for Antitumor Drug Delivery and Controlled Release

Avelino Corma et al.

Summary: This article introduces silica-based nanomedicines and their significant role in cancer treatment. Silica nanoparticles have been proposed as safe and effective vehicles for delivering antitumor drugs due to their stability, high surface area, and easy functionalization. These silica nanomedicines have specific mechanisms for intracellular drug release, allowing for precise control of drug discharge. By responding to endogenous and exogenous stimuli, these nanomedicines can achieve selective delivery to cancer cells.

Maximum Incorporation of Soft Microgel at Interfaces of Water in Oil Emulsion Droplets Stabilized by Solid Silica Spheres

Sebastian Stock et al.

Summary: The incorporation of soft hydrophilic particles at the interface of water in non-polar oil emulsion droplets is crucial, but it is not possible to stabilize the emulsions with hydrophilic soft material alone. Previous works have shown that using hydrophobic silica nanospheres and charged microgel particles is an effective strategy to stabilize w/o emulsions while incorporating a large amount of microgel particles at the interface.

Exploration of Bioengineered Scaffolds Composed of Thermo-Responsive Polymers for Drug Delivery in Wound Healing

Luis Castillo-Henriquez et al.

Summary: Innate and adaptive immune responses play a role in wound healing by promoting cellular cross-talk, with the help of smart thermo-responsive polymers providing physical support for tissue regeneration and acting as drug delivery systems. These biomaterials can regulate drug release by locally heating tumors and converting into a hydrophobic form, aiding in tissue healing and preventing bacterial infections. The review highlights the potential of bioengineered scaffolds composed of smart thermo-responsive polymers to provide spatially and temporally controlled drug release strategies for wound healing.
