Formation of tin ore deposits: A reassessment

Bernd Lehmann

Summary: The majority of historically mined tin comes from a few tin ore provinces within larger granite belts, with primary tin ore deposits related to late granite phases. Alluvial placer deposits are usually the starting point for tin mining, and tin distribution is influenced by oxidation state and mineralogical differences. Tin characterizes the inner high-temperature part of larger zoned magmatic-hydrothermal systems, with specific chemical signatures in different parts of the system.

Age, genesis, and tectonic setting of the Qiushuwan Cu-Mo deposit in East Qinling (Central China): Constraints from Sr-Nd-Hf isotopes, zircon U-Pb and molybdenite Re-Os dating

Qingquan Liu et al.

Summary: The Qiushuwan Cu-Mo deposit, formed in the late Jurassic around 150 million years ago, was mainly derived from metasomatized mantle magmas. The rocks associated with the deposit have high levels of strontium and cerium, displaying typical features. Geochemical analysis suggests that the deposit may have formed in a post-collision setting.

Geochronology and geochemical properties of the large-scale graphite mineralization associated with the Huangyangshan alkaline pluton, Eastern Junggar, Xinjiang, NW China

Xinhao Sun et al.

Summary: The Huangyangshan alkaline pluton in Xinjiang Province, forming part of the Kalamaili alkaline granite belt, hosts the Huangyangshan super-large graphite deposit. Study of zircon dating and geochemical analysis of representative rock types in the pluton, along with Re-Os isotope dating of graphite in the deposit, suggests that the mineralization formed around 320 Ma in a post-collision extensional tectonic setting.

Genesis and geological significance of Late Jurassic high-B ore-bearing A-type granite in the Dayishan tin deposit, Hunan Province

Sun HaiRui et al.

Summary: The research on the boron-rich ore-forming granite of the Dayishan tin deposit reveals its highly differentiated characteristics, abundant tourmaline content, and extensive hydrothermal activity. Geochemical analysis shows high levels of SiO2, Al2O3, Na2O, and other elements in the granite, with rare earth element distribution displaying a negative Eu anomaly. Isotopic results indicate a Mesoproterozoic crustal origin for the magma with contributions from mantle-derived materials.

Characteristics, ore sources and genesis of Huangyangshan graphite deposit in Qitai County, Xinjiang

Sun XinHao et al.

Summary: The Huangyangshan graphite deposit, located in the southern Junggar orogenic belt, is the first super-large graphite deposit hosted in granitoids in the world and is known for its unique spherical structures and coexistence with felsic minerals and sulfides. Analysis of graphite and metal sulfides associated with the deposit revealed a mixed source of carbon and a mantle source for the metal sulfides. Overall, the deposit formed during the magmatism stage of the alkaline granite, with the metal sulfides originating from mantle-derived basic end-members in magma mixing.
